Overlord 1 Tips

Post by Misconduct »

I been trying to figure out how I can win this scenario, around turn 68 and so far I have dropped all the railroads and factories in france, as well as all the Uboat pens. As far as the ground war is concerned, I use all mossy's and typhoons to try to disrupt but really I have no chance in doing much damage.

Score is around 12,000 to 35000

under the targets, open up Overlord and look at what is listed as needing to be hit ?
there is a 3 month and a 5 month battle ? if you are in the 2nd one, it could just be not enough damage done yet, if in the first one, you behind the 8 ball

really, need more info on what is going on, how is the LW doing ? how are your losses ? , the Ge start with a big score advantage you have to knock down and take over

well, since you say 1 in the title, guess you on the early one, from what I seen, it starts out with a very large edge to the Ge side, (300-20000 or so) 68 days in, you are still in the build up to the break out, so you Large gains have not taken place yet

do you have AS over the LW ? you have to control the skies, if nothing else, you have to control the air over France, anyplace the LW takes off from, should be Dark Red, any place the LW can take off from, should be shut down (this time period was a real meat grinder for both sides, but the Allies have numbers and can afford the grinding, the LW can not)

hunt down the LW and knock it out, the bombers will do the damage to the targets, don't get sloppy, any even trade is a advantage to the LW, you got them by the throat, it is time to squeeze

I been busy bombing factories listed in the Manual, As far as I am concerned I haven't gotten total air superority yet, there hasn't been a breakout as of yet, troops landed 5/30/44 and I've been waiting for the break out, most of my turns doesn't have Overlord for targets, I suppose now is the time to start bombing airfields and get the LW on the run.

I just did another mission against Primary AF's I notice I am scoring around 105 A/C shotdown per day to 31 losses, 3 missions were no good due to weather, most were shot down attempting to land.

Like Sarge says I would use the "List Targets" option to see what you should be hitting for Overlord (there is actually an "Overlord" option in the targets list.) This was the period of time where all the allied air forces went over from strategic work to tactical support for a time, including the 8th and BC.

Essentially any mission against a factory is a waste in this scenario, except that it might bring out a few interceptors. You really want to concentrate on rail yards and airfields. I wouldn't worry too much about the troops themselves.

but in this one, the troops can have the highest values, some of those Pz Div's are juicy (but try to catch them when they are moving, once dug in, they are ruff

Good info to know, I seem to have a horrible time even putting a dent in them when they are dug in.

okay, been messing around with this some

in 4 days, one bad weather day, 3 raid days, I got 600-600-500 for the 3 days (and wasn't really going whole hog) , got OVERLORD from 3% to 9%, with a lot of missed targets (grrrr)

noticed Ge Troop Numbers have increased some 4000 points (not counting what little I have knocked it down) , LW ready aircraft has drop 400 points

I am ahead in aircraft losses points and over all numbers

in this battle, you got to take out the AF's, and the radar, V-sites, wear down the troops, break the raillines to the front, also, remember not every target in France is part of Overlord, but Overlord has a lot of targets, so I would think, you may be going after the wrong targets, but, the Allied Troops on the ground are going to be wearing down the GE troops also now, it is a meat grinder down there, it is you job to try and help it out, you still got plenty of time

Yeah its roughly 75 turns into it, I given up trying to disrupt the ground forces, except for one or two GE units who happen to be moving on the road or such. Every AF, V-site, Rail are down, overall damage to overlord is 32%
What is hurting is the ground troops which have been nearly impossible to dent right now since they are dug in.

Currently 75 turns of 123, date is 7/14/44 - I know soon will be a break out.

okay that is better, day 5 was a 1049 point gain for the Allies (oddly, the Overlord only went up 1% to 10%)

still weather is getting in the way, and the LW got sneaky, and shifted some units back onto the coast !, and in air to air, almost got to give the day to the LW, 52 to 64, but other then the ones snuck back in, the LW has abandoned France

good, looking for the break out in Aug, if all goes as planned !

got to say, Hate the weather, had a very nice plan in place, most 13 targets based on couldn't see anything, and it would of been more but some did do blind bombing on there 2ndary (most missed) but could of been even worse

most of my trips to take out the 2 Gruppen the AI snuck in, failed, but chopped them up in the air, and a late sweep caught them on the ground

6th day, scored 882 points (after repair) worked in a very nice BC decoy raid to the north, while the Main force, clobbered some targets deep in France, even got 3 air to air NF kills in the stream (only had P-61's in the stream, whole route was over water, only NF kills for the night were with 61's)

and yes, on day 6, the GE ground troops improved over 1000 points, so would say most of the gains you have been seeing are from the ground troops

for me, after 6 days it is 3881 to 25888, 13% damage to Overlord

day 7 was a odd one, one of the best raids days of the war (many wars) every raid found the target and had clear skies over them, and most took them out, with a few only taking half damage

moved the % to 19, so a 6 point gain, but only scored 200 points, I did stand down BC for the day (night) and that explains some of the score

my traps worked well, and was able to maul the LW, of course, the Allies had already lost 11 planes before the first enemy plane was seen to go down in flames, and I must say, landing must not be getting the full class room discussion that you would expect back in school, my runways are really taking a beating

intel reports that all of the V-sites are down (must not of looked at the recon photo's !!!)
