Regarding books

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Regarding books

Post by Newsoft75 »

Greetings all!
Yesterday, after having noticed the price drop, I finally ordered BFTB. I've owned COTA since back in '06 when I stayed for vacation in Rethymnon, Crete. Having"been there" really gives you some perspective later when starting up a scenario. The year after that I traveled to Tolo, Greece were I got to see the Corinth canal among other things. So you could say I was on my own little aegean campaign back then. [8D]

I really like Panther Games take on wargaming, which feels more like a "command simulator" rather than shovelling counters around, so I look forward to playing around with BFTB in the coming years. For inspiration, I also ordered a couple of books.

PARKER, DANNY S.:BATTLE OF THE BULGE

ZALOGA, STEVEN J.:BATTLE OF THE BULGE

Anyone read these? Are they good for inspiration and could you use them for making scenarios?

Thanks for listening to my rambling. [:D]

Cheers!

I agree, nothing adds to the perspective like actually walking the battlefield.

I read Parker's book - it is full of good, solid research with some notable human interest stories in it. It's not what I would call an easy "Sunday afternoon" read though. Zaloga has great maps and graphics but sometimes the facts are off, or the map has errors... but did I mention the graphics are great?

My personal all around favorite is "A Time for Trumpets" by Charles B. MacDonald.

Thanks simovitch, I appreciate your opinion. I noticed "A Time for Trumpets" in the web store. Maybe I'll go for that next time.

Time for Trumpets is my favorite Bulge book as well. Highly recommended.
