Serial number is invalid error--Peptac2.exe has stopped working

I'm running Win 7 64 bit. Plenty of memory and HD space, etc.

Installed the game. When it came to the Net 2.0 install I clicked to install it, and the Net install said it's not compatible with a 64-bit version of Windows.

Downloaded Net 2.0 x64 from the Microsoft Download Center...when I try to install that it says I already have it as part of the operating system.

So I apply the Win 7 hotfix from the community site, and try to start the game...

After about two seconds I get an error that says Peptac2.exe has stopped working.

When I close that window there is another error window behind it with the dreaded "There is an error with your serial number as entered...". I entered the serial correctly. Know I did.

I've tried running as administrator, tried several compatibility modes, same results.

Actually this seems to be a bug in the serial code checking software. I'll contact matrix to ask if they have seen this before.

Could you give the exact error message you get on PepTac2.exe and the header of the window that displays that message (or a screeny).

We are able to run it on our Win 7 systems without any difficulty. It sounds like the program is not reading the registry properly. This is often caused by Anti-Virus software, usually during the install. I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the game with your Anti-virus turned off, to make sure it is able to write to the registry properly.
If this doesn't work, please attach a DXDiag, and detailed error messages.
