A bit of levity
So I hav been playing this game (off and on now that the new semester is here) since December. My girlfriend has looked a few times and basically ignored what I was saying about it. But finally the lightbulb came on when I was rereading Clark and she said "Oh, I was wondering what all those envelopes were"
It was my turn to be perplexed until I saw the NATO infantry symbol in a new light...envelopes. I am afraid from now on, WitE will always be "The Envelope Game" in my house...

The Ukrainian Postal Shock armies in their brown trucks were also feared, I understand.

Bad luck mate. She now knows you are a GAMER. You should have kept her thinking you were working on an economic forecasting model or something.
To save your relationship you must get out immediately and buy her some nice shoes/chocolates or similar. Delay may be fatal.

My wife calls it Hexagon Land. She even has a little song she sings about me and Hexagon Land whenever she sees me playing. [:)]

She knew already, I was doomed from the start. She just couldn't figure out why I kept taking books from my shelf about some invasion of the USSR and then playing the Envelope Game.

These things happen. It was 5000 model soldiers that gave me away.
Wife got a bit upset a few weeks ago and complained 'you've been playing on that wretched machine for 6 hours now'.
I knew 'is that all?' was not going to be the right answer and managed to bite back that answer.
Unfortunately, 'no I haven't. It's only been 5 hours and 40 minutes' wasn't much better apparently

After 40 years of marraige, my wife doesn't care that I play games anymore. She used to when I had DNO scattered all over the guest bedroom floor, however. Now, she knows where I am, what I'm doing, and ignores the occasional "stupid AI!" rantings from my room.
Occasionally, and randomly, problems and solutions collide. The probability of these collisions is inversely related to the number of committees working on the solutions. -- Me.
RE: A bit of levity
My onetime girfriend (in boardgame days) called the infantry envelopes and the armor units bathtubs. That was because they look like bathtubs seen from above in house plans.

Oh no, she has yet to see the bathtubs break through the envelopes and encircle masses of postage paid deliveries...

I'm squinting at the Commander's Report, trying to get a handle on all my Support Units.
My wife, passing by, glances at the screen:
"VisiCalc in the Pacific?"
"Nope, VisiCalc in the Ukraine."
"The Ukraine is weak!"
She walks away.

RE: A bit of levity
It's not "The Ukraine"; that was a Soviet thing. Just "Ukraine". Seinfeld got it wrong.

I started an AAR on one of the most popular forums in our local language in my country. It is aimed mostly at "general gaming" population most of whom have no idea about grognard wargames, but might be interested based on this AAR...
"Envelopes" is the term some people used there to refer to units on my screenshots, as well [;)] I pointed them to the list of NATO symbols as one of the first grog lessons in the AAR....

What can Brown do for you?
Building a new PC.

This is some funny stuff. When my girlfriend walks by she says, "All your games look like honey comb."
