What Galaxy types do you prefer and why?

Post by Larsenex »

I have seen that some of you prefer some types of Galaxy types over others. I like the smooth even distribution of stars in the 'irregular' type but thats just me.

What types do you like or prefer to play with and more importantly why do you like them?

A Ring Galaxy for me, because I like placing my race in the center of the universe, and then set everyone else to be "distant" from me, which puts most of them in the ring. Gives me fewer worries to immediately deal with, since I am an habitual turtle.

Clusters. Makes for a more interesting game, I think. With even star distribution it all just becomes a mess without any clear borders. Ring is okay'ish too though.

I like the even star clusters to make the game a bit more clear just as Raap described. I also like to play spiral when I'm imagining our own milky way.

Clusters are always my choice as they give the game something of a galaxies feel without having bigger and bigger maps. I just see it as these are the only real useful stars in each galaxy.

clusters here also, I think we may be a little biased towards them now as they are the new thing in the expansion. Rings before that.

Currently playing with varied clusters, but I love spiral, ring and even clusters galaxies too. Varied clusters make excitingly random games sometimes, when races are spread unevenly around the clusters.

I have not played enough games to have a strong preference, so I try a bit different.

But I enjoy distances and voids, until range becomes to good. Clusters and ring are the logical choices. Anything with voids in them...

I usually play an elliptical, but I have played on all types.

Slightly off topic but I tend to play with low star galaxies (700 or less), for the sheer sake of trying to slow things down and make colonies more important than just "oh dear I lost one of my 4000 colonies". But has anyone tried a high star galaxy but with a very low habitable planet number?

I'm wondering if it will kepp the high colony importance factor but add the element of having to use lots of mining stations and therfore mean more of your military is in the true protection role before you can think about striking. Alos it could add in the extra strategy of watching how close opposing gas stations get as they will act as refuel points for fleets etc.

Even if you didn't obtain the desired effect with it, it would still be the closest thing to that desire...I think I'll try it also
