Trouble loading beta 1108c version

All -
I am currently at v 1.0.4.1106 (Oct 27 2010)

today I attempted to load the Beta 1108c version
but seems that the exe didnt work

ok details
I have XP
I downloaded file..
unzipped and ran the exe.

I ran the WITPAE.exe.... (still at my 'current' version) beta didnt take
I saw a Beta folder and launched that exe...
came back with error 'UNABLE to find PW Data'

not sure what is going on
funny thing of it is...
during the exe of the beta I was not asked for the games serial number !
crazy ? or did I miss something
any help would be appreciated !

The betas don't ask for serial #s. That's not a problem.

The new EXE is what you want. I did a shortcut to it (left the folder structure alone as the instlal did it), added my switches to the shortcut, and it launched fine. Renamed the shortcut to BETA so I don't forget which is which.

You might reinstall the beta patch and try to just do a shortcut to the EXE. Don't move anything.

Also, don't try to launch the old EXE first, as you say you did. That might be your problem.

once I donw load the zip file
I unzip it
I end up with the exec....

so.do I launch it ?
or.....

not exactly sure what you meant with short cut ?

I did mine back in Dec, but this is what I think I did.

When you unzip it and run the AEupdate1108c launcher you should have a folder named "Beta" in your main AE folder. That folder contians two files: the beta EXE and PWSDLL.dll. Right click on the EXE and make a Windows shortcut. Drag that out to the desktop. Apply your AE switches (copy and paste from your old shortcut if you like.) Launch.

Leave the Beta folder alone. Don't move anything.

Good deal.

Remembering, I think the first time I tried it I separated it from that .dll file and got the same message you did. Best to leave the instlal to the devs. [:)]
