I decided to give the beta a shot before the official 3.4 release but I can't launch the game ; the textbox says that there is an error with the S/N
the fact is, I checked it and the number is correct [&:]
I previously installed TOAWIII on my former PC, but not uninstalled,, is there a "unlicense/license" system to prevent multi-installation or something?
Happened to me too, mate. Do the following:
Backup your Opart.ini file and your scenario and saved game folders. De-install ALL the different TOAW folders you might have. Re-install using the versions from 3.2.x to 3.4.201, I renamed all the Opart3.exe files to their version number in order to play the diferent versions of PBEM games in progress. e.g. Opart 3.4.201.EXE and so on.
"There is an error with your serial number as entered. Please contact support@matrixgames.com for assistance. Error Code: 200".
Copied the TOAW III files from my old computer and tried installing on my current computer. The problem is that while I have my serial number, I cannot break the code of logging onto the Members Area of Matrix Games to "register" the game.
I can log onto the Matrix Games Forums, but cannot log onto the Members Area. I can't see why this is such an issue.

I had a crash and am now getting the same 'error 200'. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3.4.202 twice but still get the same eror. Wondered if anyone had any suggestions.

Steve,
there's no other way to install the versions step by step; I got all pre 3.4 versions insatlled and kept the .EXE, e.g. Opart3.4.173 up to Opart3.4.202. It's a bummer, but that way it should work wihout any hassles.
No luck. I'm out of guesses, this is above my computer knowledge. I also had an issue with my software for work, and they eventually had to 'remote' access my machine and spent 25 minutes figuring out the problem. If this is something similar, I don't know how to go about correcting it. Does Matrix have tech people we can talk to ?
here I am diagnosing computer problems from 3000 miles away, and no clue as to the system...
BUT
I think your problem occurred after the machine crash, correct ? Then tech support worked remotely on your system, correct ? And other applications are now running, but not TOAW, correct ?
I suspect that the crash mucked up Matrix' serial ID checking - either the routine cannot find the id record, or its own index/history of checking, as that error was the source of the earlier reports with ERROR 200.
I think 3.4.202 is stand-alone. Else all those people who skipped the betas could not install it and then get surprised at how different 3.4 is. You may install all the previous betas; I kept them as separate installs when I upgraded, but I was playing some games at earlier versions during the beta process.
Ralph would know. Have you checked with him ?
If you want to retain 3.2, or any of the betas, I think you will have to rebuild your 3.4 TOAW directory incrementally -- loading 173, and then 191 or whatever until you load 202 on top of it. (All the while copying the 173 directory, and renaming it; and then copying the 191 directory and renaming -- if you want to preserve these older beta versions.) But if you do not want to preserve all these versions, I think you can skip them.
I recollect your running on an older system and Ralph helped in the past, so what I did may not apply to your system. Anyway, I do think it's the serial nbr checking, and that would be a Matrix support issue; I'd focus on resolving that first vs the installation steps.
Thanks Ogar, that all sounds reasonable. I crashed and restored, and got other applications working, but no TOAW yet. This is on an XP machine. I tried Matrix support twice but all I got was - 'uninstall and reinstall'. I've tried that I don't know how many times and how many ways.
I also had all of the past updates but at one point I recently deleted all of them in order to be sure they were not the problem. As Kurt said, I can sneak in the double secret back door and get them if needed, but I tend to agree with what you said about 3.4.202 being the only file necessary.
