SPWaW&SPMBT: problems running them in a notebook on WinXP

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

SPWaW&SPMBT: problems running them in a notebook on WinXP

Post by Gallo Rojo »

I know I’m asking about a different game from a different company … but I’m sure that some Steel Panthers fan out there can help me so …
I just download SPMBT and I have two problems:
1) The game is not displaying in full screen. It is displaying in a small box in the middle of the screen. I mean: is not a window, is like a small box in the middle of the screen instead of the full screen. I have the same problem with SPWaW, but in this case the box is bigger (not full screen but almost).
2) The mouse roll really slow. I mean REALLY slow. I roll the mouse from one end to the other of the mouse-pad and the pointer only displaces at one very small fraction of the map. It is impossible to play this way.
I’m running a HP Notebook and WinXP.
Any idea about how can I solve this?

Howdy

Interesting problems...
1. I get the feeling that the notebook won't change resolution properly. Do you run it at 1024x768? Afaik spwaw runs at higher resolution than spmbt thus the difference in 'box' size. You could manually try to change the resolution from display settings before you start the game..but that's bit tedious. Also you could set from the desktop icon options to 'run maximized'

2. Have you tried to adjust mouse speed and acceleration from control panel?

Also HP may have some kind of FAQ/knowledge base, it may contain advice for these problems.

Hmm..wonder why these funny display problems usually appear in laptops..?

I believe laptops have the type of screen where the resolution is fixed - user cannot change it per standard desktop. This can lead to problems with games which run best at a different resolution.

There might be a way around this, but since I don't run laptops (three desktops are enough to keep up with) I can't say how.

Check the help forums - is there is a way someone will have found it and posted it.

I have A custom built laptop with windows xp and spwaw runs great so far. I have no problems with the screen resolution changing. I have not loaded spmbt yet so I can not comment on it. I am using the mech.exe to run spwaw. You can go into the properties of the mech.exe to change the screen size. Right click the icon and select properties. It should pop up to the shortcut tab, if not, select that tab. Then look near the bottom to find run and click the drop down box and tell it to run maximized. Select the apply button, then close and it should run maximized on the screen. Hope this helps.
