Fatal Error Code #801

I have uninstall ed game once to correcct the problem. Now second time around, not sure what to do. Game gets error code on start-up. Very disappointing.

I'm pretty sure that is the error code for the serial number problem I've tried to get help on for a while now. I cannot run the game from quick start or it bombs out immediately with an invalid serial # error. Works fine from the game menu. Makes me suspect some sort of conspiracy to force us to look at all the advertising. Of course, I'm going from memory on this, so I might have the error code wrong. mantrain will have to confirm or not.

Anyway, I've gotten nothing helpful on the problem here or from the Matrix helpdesk.

I remember it was I who lead you to start from the game menu to circumvent this problem.

I didnt realize this was the posters problem.

The game for me since the last few patches wont work from quick start.

I have to use game menu, then it works fine.

Ok I have just run from quick start and get fatal error code 801, serial number etc...

Just run from game menu and it will work fine

Yes, and I appreciated your hint. I would have been highly annoyed to not be able to play the game.

And that confirms this is the serial # error. This needs to be fixed, though obviously not at the top of the priority list.

EDIT:

I checked my Matrix ticket on this and apparently it must be run as Administrator. Test this out for us cookie monster. There's Run As Administrator checkbox on the Shortcut properties page.

Ive just checked it out.

I set the properties tab to ''run as admin'' and window at maximized

It now works perfectly

Although User Account Control box pops up

I wont disable this though

Excellent. Yes, the UAC box pops up no matter how one runs the game.

What's the message on the UAC popup? Unrecognized program?

It needs to be adressed in future patch, I do not see any reason why this game should run under administrator privileges. This is necessary just to access restricted branch in registry, I believe.

This is UAC thing... it is recommended hat user restart the PC after WitE install or WitE patch install...

Andrew at Matrix told me they are trying to resolve this problem. Hopefully they will figure out what's going on and fix it in a future patch.
