after the blizzard. How is it looking?

Post by bloomstombs2 »

I was surprised the blizzard didnt seem to hurt too much this time around. This is my 3rd vs pc blizzard. First one was a shock, the second a disaster. The third one was pretty tame.

You have saved the army which was good ( especially as I note you did not manage to take Leningrad so no Finns) but you aren't very far from Poland so I expect you retreated too far.

In the words of then Commisar, later President, Kruschev 'we will bury you'. They have got lots of population centres and even with beta 3 you will be swamped. I haven't played far enough into the game to know how long it will take though

Actually i didn't retreat much at all. I just never drove deep. This map is almost identical to the pre blizzard map.

You can see i had 2nd level defenses built in the south, but the Rumanians held exceptionally well.

Im not sure what to do next . When should I attack?

Seems like his guys are alot stronger this coming summer then last, so I dont think I can surround and destroy as easily. Also my troops are much less prepared toe wise. So many died to winter. So yeah Im not really sure how to go about this now.

Good point about the manpower centers too.

Not sure what to do next? Pray probably [:D]
Can't discern the russian  CV's, but that probably doesn't matter because there are so many of them, just look at that mass of units east of Minsk... and you've got dangerous holes at various places. South-east of Minsk for example, you've got three inf. divisions there but I assume they will be pocketed next turn. What I've learned sofar is that a single russian unit may not look much CV wise, but you rout one and there'll be two-three units to replace it, swamping you and cutting off supply paths.
Leningrad too looks awfully thin defended, I mean... two units?? (one SS cav and one inf. div)

Aw what the heck, go for the glory [:D]

When should I attack?

Have you considered the possibility of not attacking at all? Just to build a good defensive line...As far as I know, you are now winning due to VPs! If you can hold Berlin until 1945 you will win at the end.

If your honour only allows you to completely wipe out the AI, I will first try Leningrad. You could plan a campaign to isolate it by linking with the Finns in Karelia.

Yes, once you figure out where the Pop 4 (and some 3's are ok) towns are, and base your line on them and the Cities/urban areas it is possible to do OK in the Blizzard. It requires a lot of micro-management shuffling units, and the coverage isn't ideal, though. In my last game (Beta 3) I got the Blizzard casualties down to 58k at their peak. I'm sure that's not the best anyone can do, but from 86k peak in some previous games, that felt a lot better to me, hehe.

I purposefully didn't crush the AI in '41 to see the blizzard and '42. '42 became mop-up grabbing the last 50 or so VP's. Gorki is lovely in the Springtime.[;)]
