Does Soviets have a chance here?

Post by Emx77 »

Here is the case. It's turn 13 and I'm playing GC as Axis. I finished encirclement of Leningrad and after that my opponent decided to quit. He thinks that he, as Soviet, doesn't stand a chance here. In my oppinion, and given massive reinforcement which he will get + brutal winter, he decided to surrender to early.

In the following sceenshot you can see situation from Axis side and I would like that someone with more expirience (preferably beta testers who played as Soviets) give oppinion about this. If he continue does he have a chance to make anything in order to win. Or he made a right decission as this is the lost couse for his side.

He has issues, no question. What are the losses for both sides up to this point?

As the Soviets, I would at least play out the winter and see what happens. He may ultimately lose, but would learn a lot I think.

It's turn 13. You can also add manpower of these over 40 division which will be isolated in T14. Probably, I will make some more losses in following turns before winter. Anyway, do you have benchmark how many Soviets need to be out of action by turn 13?

It seems to me that you have obtained the best results I have seen in a PBEM game. It is a pity that he has surrendered, it would have been very interesting to observe your winter battles.

I'm trying to persuade him to continue. That is the reason why I started this thead. [:)]

Not turn 13, but if you as the German enter turn 25 with less than 5 million Russians, it is going to be a long hard winter. He must have ran and ran hard for you to get that far so fast.

He hasn't run. He tried to stop me but suffered two-three major encirclements (before T13) and wasn't able to form solid line of defence. That's why he thinks that Germans in hands of capable player are unstopable and that he doesn't have a chance to win.

Hah, he should read my AAR versus Kelblau. You would be doomed, doomed I say.

Trey managed to recover from a similar fiasco in a test game with Bob a while back. It can be done. Losing Leningrad isn't equivalent to losing the game.

What if he in addition to Leningrad lose Moscow, Kursk, Kharkow and Dnepetrovsk? Would that be enough to significantly cripple Red Army for rest of the war?

He should continue in my opinion, it will take more losses than this to kill the Red Army[;)]

I'm surprised he's in such city-trouble without crazy high losses in ground units.

He lost all the Ukraine including (briefly) Rostov. One hex of Moscow fell. Still bounced back.

I don't think even losing Moscow here necessarily means the Soviets are crippled for the rest of the war, provided the factories get out, or most of them.

If he still holds the Donbas cities and the Crimea by turn 17, and he got the industry evacuated out of Leningrad and Moscow, then I definitely think it is worth carrying on, particularly while he is getting the high recruitment levels that will be lost in the next patch.

I think this could turn into a really fun game for both sides, and isn't that the point? To have fun?
It's only a Game

Ok Guys. Thanks for your feedback. My opponent decided to continue. Too bad that I had to explain him my strategic weaknesess before he finally made up his mind. But as BigA said the point is to have fun. [:D]
