Took another look at the Riga issue. For me it did not act as a supply source till I got a unit to take Kuressare at the entrance to the Gulf.

Beats me then. Does Riga port have 100% damage?ORIGINAL: CharonJr
And Riga showed a distance of about 15 hexes to the next supply source.
I am helpless - actually obviously not as helpless is The One Eye Which Sees All

RE: 1. MP game vs. Miller41 (SOV) - no Miller, please
Riga distance is 8 hexes now, port damage at 53.
T3 prior to any moves:
As expected my guys in the north were cut off, but the 2 new pockets in the south have held.
Currently Miller is starting to think about his "fight for every inch of ground" strategy
I guess that there should be 60+ units in those pockets, but hard to say how many of them are combat units.
My recon still cant reach Leningrad (I think it will not be pretty up there), but unless my recon missed a lot of units Novgorod seems pretty devoid of defenders, same for Lake Ilmen.
After some more recon I can see a row of defenders guarding the landbridge to Smolensk.
4. Panzergruppe only has about 20 MPs left now, the deep penetration is starting to take its toll. And the other Panzergruppen have not fared much better, except for the units of 1. Panzergruppe that have only become active last turn.

Regarding Riga:
You can bomb the port in the hew just to the west of the lone Soviet airbase NW of Riga across the gulf. It has a port cap of 3 and that allows it to cover the entrance to the gulf.
Since range is rounded down, a 1% hit will allow sea movement into Riga, but the port will repair so for Riga to be used as a supply conduit on turn 2, it must be brought down to 96% (assuming the rules state repair % correct, p 282). This would decrease bombers available for T1 airbase attacks, but could very well be worth it - a PZ XXX HQ in a supplied Riga has a very good supply state.

Cracking the Pskov line on turn 2 is very good progress. And the pocket south of Vinnitsa on top of what was already bagged on turn 1 is leaving SW Front extremely thin on the ground. You've practically annihilated it.
The only problem spot is in the center. You're going to have problems getting past the Dnepr and the Smolensk landbridge, but that's the price you pay for a strong southern opening. The pressure on the flanks is so strong the Soviet will have to divert forces from the center, in any case.

Dang, should have known about the bombing to enable Riga earlier, but thank you for the input
Yes, he is getting short on troops in the SW and I hope to be able to make it even worse, but am not sure how far I have to bring those hexes under my control. I assume that I need to convert the marked hex to German control, too, in order to isolate those units, right?

It looks like OKH has been torn wide open by Soviet spies again and all our plans are known to them...

Yes, you would need that coastal hex. Probably not worth it to use mechanized troops there, save them for bigger things toward the Dnepr.

Hmmm, at least if he is going to do that he could log out and log back in...the nerve of some spies. Oh well, you have him on the run now in the north and south - as Nathan Bedford Forrest said "you have the skeer (scare) in him." Keeping your opponant unbalanced and reacting to what you do is in your favor.

I note you don't have the 11th shooting toward odessa hard, maybe you could do this - of course it will be garrisoned heavily (or should be). I prefer to leave the 11th alone and have them move to Odessa, the tanks further north - but that is just me.
Oh, and Miller41? We can all see you here, you are not supposed to be here. Please leave.

What the heck? I could understand a oopsy pop in. I made that mistake but informed my opponent right away. Oleg made the same mistake popping into the wrong AAR and told me right away. This is bad juju.
Yep, still here reading.

Keep AGS panzers heading towards the Dnepr. Odessa is a sideshow. 11. Army can handle it.
Don't give him a chance to recover and get dug in behind the river. You have an excellent opportunity to get across it with minimal opposition. SW Front is on the ropes. This is possibly the best opening I've ever seen against it.
And once you cross the Dnepr in the south you no longer have to worry about diverting panzers from AGC in the Gomel direction to threaten a pocket. Indeed, you may be looking at doing the reverse: getting some AGS armor heading north to dislocate Bryansk Front and ultimately the whole Dvina/Smolensk/Dnepr defensive line in the center.

This IS the best "skeer" I have seen in an AAR. Even if the center slows, once the armor from the south crosses the Dnepr the center becomes unhinged.

Well, I reached the Dnepr, but likely taking Kiev will be easier than getting across, sadly the infantry I forced to retreat went right into the hex that contained only an HQ before, was hoping to take possession of that hex with the SS mot div (even if unable to cross the river itself).
Lets hope the the Soviet spies will not learn the exact placement of my HQs
And it is called "Angst"

Not good... I once finished an AE game when this happened to me. Sorry but there is no way round it, peeking is simply cheating in my book.

Hi Charon, extremley good opening, well done.
I actually used your beginning moves against the AI when i played my first campaign.
But this spying thing is really annoying, maybe you should not broadcast you plans here, granted your AAR will suffer from it but how fun is it if he is going to read and counter everything you plan. Or you could post after the fact?
I feel this is destroying the game otherwise.
