The construction unit thing is always a problem for me; if I don't lock the HQs then the diggers/fixers run away ( unless i've supplied the Fronts with enough for their own quota ), and if I do lock them then artillery won't trickle down from the top.  Damned if I do and damned if I don't. [:@]

Mud in summer 1941 can make the going rather tough for the Axis. Maybe he'll get more snow turns or even clear turns in the autumn, winter and spring, but I'd agree that in 1941 random weather favours the Soviets more than the Axis.

It will be interesting if, after a couple of blizzard turns in the winter, he suddenly gets a snow turn and attacks. That would be unexpected.

What would not be nice for him is if he gets blizzard turns in March, and statistically there's a fairly decent chance for that especially in the northern part of the map. A six or higher and he gets a blizzard turn, and there doesn't seem to be a cap for those.

That's why I lock the HQ's after they're all empty, rail STAVKA around the map and redistribute the artillery regiments myself.

Just got my turn 3 in from James.

Mud in the Soviet south zone. Not my idea, btw. I think random weather grossly favors the Soviet in 1941, the German timetable is tight and a single mud turn can throw it off. Especially mud this early. Essentially I got a free turn out of this.

But he insisted. We'll see if the weather gods (they are very fickle) decide to favor the German at a future date.

It bit me good as the Soviets playing Rick. First turn of blizzard season in 41 was blizzard and I pushed hard all along the line. The next turn was snow and he clobbered me. Took a couple more turns just to recover and reorganize after that.

Turn 4. More mud. This time in the north zone.

Reserve Front activates and this massive AP dump allows me to finally get my command and control in order along the entire front. I launch 6 counterattacks this turn, and all worked. 3 motorized, 2 panzer, and one infantry division hit. About 200 dead German AFVs from that. He's down over 800 tanks from turn 1 in total. I'll be looking to do more of the same every turn from here on out.

Very little movement north of the Pripyet marshes. James needs to make something happen up here soon. Panzer Group 4 is scattered around the Baltic republics and not massed to do anything in particular. He isn't going to sneak through the Narva back door, either: I firmly locked that down. He poked around a bit near the Smolensk landbridge to bust some forts but otherwise nothing. So I added another reserve army to this location for good measure.

He went on another raid in Southwest Front and made a half arsed pocket east of Rowno, which I promptly relieved. All this maneuvering is to little purpose, imo. He still hasn't pocketed anything for real down here. All this is accomplishing is pushing me back bit by bit towards the Dnepr. I do not understand why he chooses to shove SW Front back towards the Dnepr. He would be better off trying to destroy it out in the open, and these railroad raids aren't going to do that.

He got a break on the mud in the north zone in that he didn't get hit by the effects of it when he was in that zone and now knows it won't come up with mud again during the summer.

Moves are curious in the south where it looks like he just drove around the countryside, losing a lot of vehicles due to attrition without really much purpose. He left a lot of units in very exposed positions.

I see a lot of German infantry that is finally in the picture, so he will likely be more active this next turn I would think, but those Russian defenses are starting to look dug in and nasty to try to chew through.

So what happened to this AAR? It was one of the 2 most anticipated and watched AAR's on the board. Is it dead?

I wonder if they are to busy testing out "blizzard" changes?
