Save your carrier aircraft for the KB - wasting them on ground attacks at this point just burns them out & gives your opponent a shot at an unopposed strike against you.

I think Andy's plan here is to run away if he sees KB in the area, but I've been wrong before :).

Problems problems the 1srt wave is ready to go in 60,000 men but PZB has 8,000 at my destination which is not good. 8,000 in rough jungle say lvl 5 forts might be difficult to take.

To paraphrase US (Confederate) General James Longstreet: "I've fought from the ranks up. I've fought by section, by company, by regiment, by division and by corps. And I tell you frankly, this attack will not fail. There is no body of 8,000 men that ever lived that could stop this attack."

Good luck!

Oddball: Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

To paraphrase US (Confederate) General James Longstreet: "Sir with your permission... Sir, I've been a soldier all my life. I've fought from the ranks on up, you know my service. But sir, I must tell you now, I believe this attack will fail. No 15,000 men ever made could take that ridge."

I am committed but more worried than I was about this....

Thats 200 AV of Garrison - I have about 3.5 Divs landing - might not be enough even if I throw the kitchen sink at it from the air

Also attacking 52nd JNAF AF Unit  ...
Also attacking 1st Recon Regiment ...
Also attacking 15th Garrison Unit  ...

200 av vs. 3.5 divs is no problem at all for your troops. You might not take it on the first attempt but the enemy will take far more losses than you so in the second or third attempt the enemy is toast, especially as there´s only one "combat unit".

Now that the cat is out of the bag, do you think you could post a map and include your target(s)?

I think this is a very bold move, and I think it is the right time to strike in this area. The longer you wait, the deeper fortifications you will be up against. Your forces are also still expendable, while any Jap losses are gone for good. Even if you fail miserably here, you will get new ships, aircraft, troops. Japs dont.
The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close.
In its place we are entering a period of consequences..

I agree. One or more unsuccessful shock attacks that gut the attackers would change that, but deliberate attacks ought to do the trick.

Well interesting turn on Day +2

The 73rd Motorised Bde shock attacked and the other 3 Divs performed a deliberate attack and just failed a 1 to 1 attack however with 40+ disabled squads I am going to ris a second attack tomorrw as I will get stronger as my TF is still not fully unloaded.

I have to have a decent shot at 1 to 1 tomorrow. Lvl 5 forts were unexpected but as anticipated.

Royal Sovereign and Hawkins were both sunk Royal Sovereign was actually doing ok but she ate a torpedo from a Jap sub.

2 japanese CA's both limped away i forgot about dual missions and my naval bombers dedicated to naval strike duty didnt fly.

At the island the Australian Para landed I have now put 2 PBY Sqns despite it being lvl 0 AF - those PBY's and PB4Y's from Darwin are focussed on detecting KB

I tyhink I have at least two more days.

RE: 7th Fleet - CHARGE

Post by Andy Mac »

ps I am not unhappy so far my air groups thanks to replenishment groups are still at full strength with 2 elite Sqns of Hellcats sitting at Darwin ready to fly in.

My LCU's are still getting stronger because of 100 prep and plenty of supply and one more day of unloading to go - so I should make progress tomorrow

In last two days 100 Japanese aircraft have been lost I have lost 30 but all have been replaced.

So far so good it all depends on getting those forts knocked down before I need to pull back - if I can get 200 Thuds in there backed by Land based SBD's....

My other assault forces I am reconsidering Force  was due to hit Koepang which looks alarmingly strong and Force E was going to hit Endeh I may still go in and hit that one depends on how the carrier battle goes

RE: 7th Fleet - CHARGE

Post by Andy Mac »

Disruption for my LCu;s was at 20 and fatigue at 25 apart from 73rd Mot Bde.

So I think thats low enough to try an all out shock attack tomorrow and see how we get on.

I hope the Japanese Disruption will be high as well

RE: 7th Fleet - CHARGE

Post by Andy Mac »

I still have about 400 AV on board ships so more is yet to unload - some will unload in time for tomorrows assault so I am hoping my AV will rise to about the 700 lvl and with a little luck the japanese will drop a bit after 20% casualties in fighting squads today.

Assuming thats the case and with a little luck I might even get a 2:1

Objective 'W' Secured on D - Day+3

Post by Andy Mac »

Objective W was secured today when 7th Australian Division supported by the combined Corps artillery secured the AF - US troops of the 7th US Div secured the port and 33rd US took the ridge overlooking the base

All in all an exceptional result.

My fleet took heavy losses with over 80 Hellcats falling in vicious air battles.

My intention is to pull the fleet back replenish rearm and refill my replenishment groups in passing we will hit Koepang with a full force strike.

I flew in 120 fighters today (advantage in bringing along a full Seabee Regt and 2 Aviation Bns) so I should have land based CAP tomorrow when the sweeps come in.

With 1200 AV on the base in bad terrain and forts that will rapidly rise I would call this base secure - would take 10 Divs plus to retake it now

My next objective is E and the convoy is en route I would like to rearm before they get close as I expect a fight with KB when they arrive

Choices choices I wonder if PZB would try to take it back - if he would that would be great.

I have a lot of Seabees floating about I may go the dot bases as it will complicate PZB's job as he will need to keep tyhem all suppressed

10th Air Force in India is ordered to hit Toungoo in the Japanese rear tonight should be interesting even if it fails it will keep PZB looking over his shoulder

My main goal is to get a large force into the Flores and Timor region if I can get in and get dug in I can pull carriers back and rely on LBA to cover an island hopping campaing this will free up a Centpac offensive elsewhere

I have subs covering the north and both the Makassar strait and Celebes sea no sign of KB yet

Starting to get worried they may be off somewhere else entirely

Objective E was Endeh and K was Koepand and R was Roti

Not sure any more which if any of those I wil hit so many choices but with a secure AF up and running I now have choices and casn concentrate on dealing with KB without being tied to the apron strings of supporting a landing

The main problem I see is that you didn´t go for a potential level 9 airfield in your first wave, this would be my primary goal. A potential level 8 airfield is nice but isn´t comparable at all to a level 9 when it comes down to perhaps end up with only one major base.

Every day without the KB showing up is a blessing, so stop worrying about that. This battle will win or lose the battle for the SRA, and the fact that the KB has not shown up only means that PzB has gotten his priorities wrong. It doesnt really matter where the KB is right now as long as it is not here. No second-guessing yourself here Andy, you are 100% committed to this battle and you must keep the focus. This is where you win or lose the game.
