How to install 2 different game versions?

Post by Reconvet »

Hi. I'd like to have two different game versions of WitE on my PC, one version for my ongoing pbem and the other one for the latest beta patch.

Sorry if this was mentionned before, but I couldn't find anything helpful via forum search.

My OS is Windows 7. Just copying the game folder and installing the beta patch for this second folder only didn't work as I hoped (the original game/pbem-folder was updated too...). A full second (parallel) installation of the game had the same result.

Is it possible to get two parallel installations of WitE (with different patch versions) on the same PC? If possible I'd like to avoid fumbling around with multi-boot options and different OS on my PC. And switching patches each time a pbem-turn comes in and switching back again for my test game is quite a nuisance.

You may just copy all WITE installation folder and use it for PBEM game and install beta patch into original folder.

Thanks for the quick answer. But I'm afraid it didn't work.

I de-installed WitE, made a clean install, patched this to 1.03 beta-2 (my current pbem), then made a copy of the game folder (on the same harddisk partition). This pbem-copy started nicely as 1.03-beta-2. I then executed the beta-4-patch on the original game, this converted to beta 4. But when I started my pbem version, it had converted to beta 4 too.

In fact it is not. The version displayed on the top is the one taken from registry, which was updated by latest installer. Check the version of the exe files.

Aaaaaaaaaaah, excellent. [:)]

I had only checked the top bar version-info after game start. Thanks for the tip. [:)]

That "Top Bar" version is, AFAIK, read from registry... thus "deceiving" when you have several installs of WitE...

Yep, I know a guy who definitily was deceived. [8|]

I know that there is way more important stuff to be fixed, but one of these days getting ingame info of the currently running patch version would be very nice for those of us with several installs.

And thanks again for the effort you forum guards, testers and code gurus put into this great game. [:)]
