Me vs Kelblau Beta 4 No Kel please.

Post by 2ndACR »

Okay, started a new game. I have tried something a little different this game. Some will have major issues with it, but so far, it seems to be working, but it is still early.

I did not grab shots of turn 1 so we are at turn 2 already.

North, I have cleared most of Estonia and my Panzer Div are all almost to Pskov with 1 right next to it.

Turn 2 Central

My armor is almost to the Dnepr River, you will notice that AGC looks a little light armor wise, it is. I shifted 1 Panzer Corp to AGS and also sent an additional Panzer Div and Motorized Div down there too.

Turn 2 South

Here my armor is driving deep into the south. Romanian is active. Here we see the additional armor units from AGC. Object, use the additional striking power to drive across the Dnepr ASAP before he has a chance to dig in heavily. Once that is accomplished, the AGC units will sweep north to rejoin AGC.

Mate, I think that's a huge mistake, but exactly why I think so, will elaborate some other time [:D] Lets see how it goes first.

Did you use the same strategy in our second game, that is also at turn 2, too? You don't have to reply to that.... if you use the same strategy vs both of us, I will stop reading this thread if you want me to.

Nope, did not use the same strategy. I decided to try something new in this one just to see how it goes.

Feel free to read and comment.

Forgot to grab some shots. Was going good until mud arrived and toasted me. We really need a next turn weather forecast.

North, I have a panzer div surrounded with no hope due to mud.

Central, mud arrives and causes 4 div to get cut off with no hope of survival.

South, mud on 1/2 the map, cuts off 2 div but I get lucky and where there is no mud manage to save them. Glad I had the extra 2 div down there.

This is what happens when you use the random weather setting without any kind of forecast. You get aggressive and then you are toast.

My 2 pence worth(3 cents to you) on T2

1 North - your leading armour is too exposed and can (and should) be isolated with ease which will cost you time and make Leningrad harder to take if that's your plan
2 Centre - unlucky not to catch Mogilev factories -1 hex short :(
3 South looking good except I think it's essential to take Kovel T2 Putting rail conversion through there seems better than where you are which will take to long to get to Kiev

Reply: They already know you're a gamer. What other shame can possibly compare?

I can handle isolated, because if mud does not arrive, any isolated can be saved by follow on units. But, mud arrives without any warning and now aggressive play is doomed.

It is risky to plow forward, but you either do that, or limit yourself to a very slow crawl so you don't take a risk. Catch 22.

I could probably handle no weather forecast IF the weather zones were smaller. But to see mud cover almost 2/3 of the map in play out of the blue is hard to swallow.

I have found that in the south, best place is rail conversion thru Lvov and then towards Tarnopol and Proskrov. It has worked very well for me in other games.

Turn 4

I got lucky and my isolated Panzers all survived. Count my small blessings. But, between mud and my distance, the northern Panzer Div is still cut off. I have my fingers crossed.

In the south, I am still pushing strong, most of the Lvov pocket is dead. 17th Army and 6th Army are advancing east.

How goes the war?

I had heard that the Germans had it tough when they invaded Russia because the winters were unusually cold. With random weather on and mud everywhere it seems that maybe that irl the Germans might have been lucky at the outset not to face these mud conditions.

Is it also possible with random weather to have a warm winter where the Germans don't freeze to death in droves?

If not, then random is a terrible deal for the Germans. It has the ability to deprive them of their early lucky run but not their later bad luck.

Does all that seem reasonable or am I missing something?

Have not updated in a long while.

Turn 13

After the disaster that I created by sticking my neck out too far, I am slugging away still.

He made a mistake and I really don't think he has noticed it yet. Or if he has, he has done nothing to stop me, no troop movements to halt me. He left a hole in the north and the Finns are moving into Russia. Big, major oops. I am shifting another 6 Finn Div over to exploit that gap further. That is in addition to the ones pictured here.

Turn 13

My rebuilt Panzer Div is on the front and I have made 2 large breakthru's. Now I just have to exploit it. I am not sure because my armor is extremely weak across the board. Fuel and tanks are in short supply.
