Comrade Yakovlev! Why is the Commissar's House not back in our hands? ~Bang!~

Now..the rest of you commanders, take back our land!

*the battle heats up with the arrival of Flamm Tanks*

The west edge of the Volga along the city edge sees most of the action and I lose one T34 in the center, The German assault teams along the bottom of the map are causing more trouble, I should see an end to that soon as my Comrades continues to pour across the river!

German Command Bunker -

"Rudi, what is the situation?" I heard many rounds of heavy artillery a few moments ago. Is all well?"

"Well Herr Oberst, some of our forward elements have received fire from across the river - it appears to be 203mm and those 152mm howizers." "However, our commanders report encountering unpainted T34s that must have been driven directly from the assembly plant to the battle zone". "Hauptman Getz led his assault gun battery to the area and the results were quite splendid. Both T34s and some of their KVs were destroyed". "We suffered no losses among the assault guns".

"The concrete reinforced building that has been so troublesome has been destroyed by an assault squad - just excellent work. I have recommended an Iron Cross for Lt. Braun who led the assault". "If we had more like him, we would be home for Christmas."

"Overall, we are capturing our objectives but there seems to be no end to the reinforcements being thrown against us."

"The enemy engineers are still quite dangerous and must be approached with caution"......."and of course, the remaining bunkers must eventually be dealt with".

The Oberst stared off into space, thinking about the casualties that must be accumulating. He knew he should ask but could not bring himself to do so. Better he should dwell on the success of the last few minutes. The casualty reports and requests for reinforcements could be dealt with later............

A lot of confused fighting this time. Assault guns engage several tanks with good success; 76mm AT guns engaged.

Very brutal - suppressed units everywhere!

Many Soviet units in view - the action promises to continue into the next few turns.

A hard fight looms ahead.

Hq Factory District Stalingrad

The fighting grows bitter and confused

we are at such close range that I am forced to fire into groups of mixed Russians and Germans alike

The German Stug IIIs seem like monsters that will not die, and now German Flamm tanks enter the combat

my men are exhausted and hungry, ammo is low, moral-nonexistent.

the only thing keeping them going is a hunger for death and revenge

The Motherland Fights On!

Still more Soviets arriving on the scene. Fighting is often hand to hand. If I get some unsuppressed units, I will try the melee mode or even the over-run mode. Great stuff.

The Soviet commander has placed those troublesom AT guns in depth and I dare not advance. OTOH, I dare not sit still and absorb hits from the 203mm howies.

Perhaps the Oberst has ordered some 155 artillery support?

Meanwhile, we wrestle in the mud, blood, and crud.

It is hard to believe that so much mayhem has been created in just 11 turns.

Hi Gobs'ta!;)

Will it ever end! My god those bastards in those Stugs!

I am down to 75 T34s and 22 KVs....

The Germans are everywhere and I fear I cannot hold much less re-taking any factory:mad:

I am grouping the last of the Mortar girls and Cooks to make a final charge!

One T-80 that's all I ask for is 1 T-80!:D

I am grouping the last of the Mortar girls and Cooks to make a final charge!

Oh, no! Not that! Between "The Witches of Warwick!" and the borst, that is inhumane! Is there no end to the lengths that the Soviet will go?

A pioneer steps on a Soviet engineer and becomes a "crispy critter". Assault guns continue to work on infantry that are lurking in the burned-out buildings.

The silence of the 203mm howitzers is very welcome. Perhaps he is out of ammo. I hope, I hope.

A partisan group goes to the great beyond in a "blaze" of glory.

Rock on!

Hq Factory Distract Stalingrad~

"The sun will not come up today Comrades...this is our last hour...for we must....

then the door burst open wide..and Shevchenko came inside..and he kissed Jessovinski's face, and he brushed his tears away...

"Shevchenko! my old friend!"

you need a bit of help I hear Jessovinski? I have my Platoon ready now..just outside sir!

"Shevchenko, you cannot take BA-10's into the city!"

with your permission sir......

{the rest is history...Shevchenko and his BA-10s charged right into the heart of the Germans}

The rest of the battle is fluid..sort of..Redleg is concentrated at the river edge...I think.

SPLASH....SPLASH....what could that be?

Well, the BA-10s were another in a long list of surprises in this battle. I took a bit of a chance against them and had a little luck. But the luck needs to hold through next turn. A lot to ask for.

The KVs remain as a serious threat as do the concrete reinforced buildings. Another 76mm AT gun taken out. An interesting battle between engineer flame units.

A lot rides on whether the mortar bombardment does a good job of suppression. If not, things could be dicey for a while.

Shevchenko and his platoon...well half of it..routed back a few hexs, I can only hope they will rally..**** Redleg and his flamm tanks!

Moment of intrest..a German pinned unit with only a couple men left alive and with only 1 handgrenade killed a T28

the battle is still storming!

The battle of Stalingrad rages on! A good map, a good opponent, and troops that are so good that I can do incredibly stupid things and get away with it!

A very interesting stand-off between three Stugs and a KV flamer. The poor KV is so suppressed, he hasn't been able to hit anything with his flame-gun. The Stugs can't kill the KV. Two turns so far and counting......

The fighting is wide-spread by ever shrinking units. It is now common for a squad of 3 or 4 to engage a squad of similar size.

A very good fight.

Getting around the flank was not an easy task. Losses were high and it weakened the advance up the center. Still, it seemed a good thing to do.

A T34 and the incredible KV flamer destroyed at last. The Stugs couldn't kill it but it finally went under an infantry assault.

The very troublesome reinforced concret building has been taken finally. It was very diffcult to maneuver around and get in position to destroy it.

A fanatic 76mm AT gun is causing a lot of trouble near the river.

Now I must wait and see how much damage the 203mm bombardment did at the end of the turn.

On a shell blown street near the last Russian Bunker a lone cyclist is shot by a German sniper.

As the German was searching the young woman's body he discovered an envelope witch read "Most Urgent"

Because the young German sniper could read and speak Russian fluently he rushed the blood stained message to his commander.

The commander quickly opened the letter and was not really surprised at what he read.

"Comrade Stalin, with this message I have ended my life, I know you would expect nothing less, the Factory District of your great city has fallen. You have no one to blame for this other than me. I failed Mother Russia and you. I pray that the Motherland might hold and eventually remove the German threat from our land. To my men who fell under my command I join them now."

What a battle! Redleg really kicked my butt with those 81mm Morts and Flamm tanks. My own tanks failed me completely and I spent too much resources on them.

Password "Jazz" and a re-match some day my Friend!

H2H played wonderful and was a great deal of fun to play!

The map is awesome and if you dont have it you should get it!

This was a classic German-Soviet match up. The Soviet is hard-pressed in 1942 under any conditions. Every time I have played from the Sovietn side, similar results occur. Even in a city with limited vis which generally favors the Sovet, it is very difficult.

From the German perspective, I decided beforehand that I would avoid elite troops even though I did use 2-3 platoons of pioneers. They were to simulate the arrival of the specially-trained assault troops that were flown in to S'grad to assault the factory area.
The real troops did not fare well at all.

I had decided before the battle that 8 tubes of 81mm mortars was the limit. No more artillery authorized for use. On the downside, these mortars had a .2 delay which is almost as ridiculous as the .1 for U.S. mortars. A .4 delay would have been much better.

Unfortunately, the map on the first turn favored me very much. It created the "old land-grab" phenom which is really too bad. Hindsight is 20-20 but it would have been better to try to generate the battle with better v-hex placements.

Anyway, I did stick to my strategy and everything worked out well despite Jess' creative and unexpected defenses.

The German troops are very good (even without SS and FJ types).
And Soviet are too poor (even with guards units).

It seemed to me that the Soviet .50 cal HMG has lost some of its punch - that may be an illusion since I kept my armor in infantry support almost entirely through the battle.

It was fun to play agains Jess since he is willing to try things.

Thanks for a fine battle, Jess. I appreciate it. Perhaps we can try it again one day. I wonder how a battle on this map would work with two countries other than German or U.S.? Could be interesting.
