Which Message Level?

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Which Message Level?

Post by terry1040 »

Just out of curiosity:
At which Message Level are you guys generally playing?

I really love details, but this just takes too long.
In the past I used Level 2/3 but now I find myself using Level 0 quite often.

What would you recommend as the best balance between information and game speed?

BTW, is there a way to redicrect the Messages into a file that you could review after the raids of the day?

I tend to message at 0 and review the after action reports to see which raids lost planes and target damage results.

I am still playing around with clock speed.

If there is a report I would like to know. Right now I do record keeping the old fashioned way - pencil and paper.

Turning explosions and flak effects off will speed things up a lot also.

Messages take up too much time, but you need them at lvl 1 at least.

Where are the WITP Tracker guys when you need them?

I fear this is common to games from the era of the original release, "play the game and dont worry about the details" and " why would you want to change anything?"  (Like the RAF Sqns flying Hurris at June 44!!!!!!!)

I quite like to have messages on '3' occasionally as it gives me an idea of how the opposition 'Aces' are doing. This is usually when I have spent an hour or two planning missions and then like to sit back with a cup of coffee and admire (or regret!) my work.

3. I want to know where the LW is taking off. always. This intel data i need to know to hunt them down. My best was way over 100 kills in a single day. cant do that if you dont know where they come from :-)

But is that not a bit of a gamey tactic?
In reality you would have a hard time to identify the launch airflieds of the German Fighters.
Normally you would only gain that intel by sending out tons of Recon Missions.

Just my 2 cents.

You could put it down to spies and the like or something that makes up for the fact that recon missions don't tell you what type of aircraft are at each airfield. In the same way that recon missions don't tell you which aircraft are being produced at each factory, not knowing which aircraft are at which base is annoying. Anyhow, the AI moves units about fairly reguarly so I don't think this spoils the game.
