Beta5 Minor Allies

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Beta5 Minor Allies

I've noticed that in Beta 5 (perhaps it might even have been there in 4), the entire Italian occupation force in Yugoslavia is no longer zeroed out on movement. Ditto for the Hungarians within Hungary. Conceivably, an Axis player could now triple or quadruple the size of those nations' commitment to the Eastern Front vis-a-vis previous versions of the game (not to mention History). Has anyone else noticed this, and should there not be some sort of limit to prevent an ahistoric de-garrisoning of Yuglosavia ?

I just loaded my beta 6 candidate version and all those units have 0 MPs on turn 1. Are you seeing that they have MPs on turn 1 of your 41 Campaign (if not, when is this happening)? Does anyone else see this?

If memory serves, it probably happened on the turn that the Hungarians come in. Wasn't that way on Turn 1.

I think I've seen in when a soviet unit retreats into an axis minor allied nation...but not using the current exe.

Actually, now that you mention that - it happened in this game - a Soviet unit retreated one hex into Hungary.

I had this happen in a test game, but I could not replicate it and therefore could not enter a bug report, so maybe the Hungary thing is the trigger.
It's only a Game

It would seem that way. Not a huge problem, my opponent and i will simply agree to refrain from emptying Yugoslavia and Hungary, and stick to "expected" levels of Italian and Hungarian commitment. It may be something you'd want to investigate and fix further down the road I suppose.

In my PBEM v. Von Beanie, he sent a single unit into Hungary to tear up rail lines. This activated every Italian and Hungarian Unit. By agreement, I am leaving them where they are, but they did activate.

Too bad, i would love to have an Italian Armored Corps in the East! FUN FUN!

A rail hex in Hungary got damaged that way in our game. we may have found the - or a - common denominator here.

Retreated????

That was an offensive....

Granted, it was a little on the small side, but it panicked the AXIS enough to activate everybody with a rifle all the way to the Adriatic....

I have beta 5 game where russian unit advanced into Hungary but was roundly ignored by Hungarian army. Don't think it was a rail hex but I may be wrong about that. Hungarian mobile corps killed it on my T4 but I assume that was planned release ( not currently at game computer) and no other Hungarians/allies have been released.

This is what happened in my Beta 5 GC as well. The Hungarian Sec unit remained unactivated even after attacks. Nothing else anywhere activated. I had to return the Mech Corps unit to take care of it. Strange that an attacked unit didn't activate....
