Balkan Air Force

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Balkan Air Force

Post by WaveRuler »

I'm currently a couple of hundred turns into the BTR long campaign as Allies and I was wondering what the Balkan Air Force was. I see it listed in the 'Set Targets' menu but no units are present. I know that historically it was a multi-national force formed to aid Tito's Partisans in 1944. Does this mean that it will appear in the game? If so, is this what the Yak-9 and Italian types are for that are listed in the weapons database?

Balkan Air Force appears in mid 1944 with bases mostly at the 'heel' of Italy, they are presumably supposed to be used to attack targets in the Balkans although I have never seen them given a mandatory target (they are therefore useful as support for XVth). Looking through my autosaves it seems that Balkan Air Force is activated sometime during June 1944, probably as 12th and Med vacate their bases to move north behind the Allied advance.

Balkan Air Force gets a mix of aircraft including the Italian types but also Spitfires, Airacobras and medium bombers; they don't get Yaks by default though. However I've got to September 1944 and I've got about 150 Yak-9s sat in my stockpile, not actually used them though.

OK, thanks. I wonder how the Yaks are used then.
