Loose cannons

Post by Sonny »

I hesitate to put this in the bug forum, but I never saw it before 2.0 and do not see any mention of it in the thread for 2.10

There seems to be some loose cannons under my command. Fighter pilots (from both sides) who are assigned escort decide on their own to go strafe an enemy base. It has happened many times as the Japanese and maybe twice as the Allies.

I have 5 squadrons of bombers at Shortlands and three squadrons of Zeros. All of the Zeros are set to escort with 0% CAP. But every once in a while they take off for GG. The one consistent thing is that they have never been able to locate the target. Usually the message says that the bombers can't locate the target but with these guys it is the Zeros. At first I thought it was that they were escorting bombers and the message just mentioned the Zeros. But I checked the bombers and none had any fatigue which would indicate they had flown that turn (all fatigue was 6 or below).

With the Allied side, it has happened once that I am sure of and another which I cannot prove since the fighters left their assigned TF which they were supposed to LRCAP and went off to Rossel Island only to not be able to find the target. The TF was still in range so it was not the thing where they switch from LRCAP to sweep mode by themselves. They still had LRCAP as their mission. Now, i'm not positive about this because there was lots of action that turn but my TF got bombed to smithereens with no LRCAP to intercept any enemy bombers. Although there have been several times in some of my games where the LRCAP had failed to materialize.

One of my opponents said that he had seen such actions before 2.0 but I had not. Maybe it happened so infrequently that I didn't notice. However in 2.0 it has happened quite a bit.

Anybody else?

:)

Guess not many had this problem 'cause there are no replies.

Well, 2.10 seems to have fixed it. Played the entire long weekend without seeing any of my fighter pilots go off on their own and do a sweep. Maybe I missed it but I don't think so.:)
