Help, getting spammed by KV's

Post by soldier1 »

Hello I'm pretty new to close combat, I did have "A Bridge too far" many years ago and thought that was pretty cool so i got Cross of Iron last month. I love eastern front stuff and have settled down to a Grossduetchland v1 campaign on medium settings. I have gotten to the last operation typhoon scenario but have a problem. The AI fields about 3 or 4 KV's each battle (not to mention a couple of T 34's) and its become a full time job trying to destoy the beasts. My infantry squads can occaisonally bag one after taking savage losses and my single Pz III and Stug are overwhelmed & outgunned. I have tried to buy a few AT guns but they get squashed like bugs quick smart. If it wasn't for the peicemeal attacks of the AI and the way its tanks tend to wander about I'd have been easily crushed long ago.
I do appreciate that there were massive red army counterattacks at Moscow and it shouldn't be easy but the Russian purchase list seems wrong at this early stage of the war. I don't wanna see whats gonna come my way in late 1942 [X(]. So how do i make it easier and reduce the high numbers of heavy tanks that the AI spams in the campaign. I have read about the all infantry mod but i dont want to completely eliminate all KV's. Just a few less would be nice.

The AI always spends all it's points on the highest value unit first.. invariably a tank.

and highest value unit = KV
It seems the AI gets many bonus units no matter how many you destroy in the campaign. I've decided to mod the availability of all soviet heavy tanks to 1 and delay each units introduction by 1 season and phase some out earlier as there are many varities Ivan can call on to bolster his stock. I'm not sure if this is going to work at all as I've never modded this game before and am not sure if availability of 1 means 1 unit of that type. Hope it works.
Other than this it seems like a good game

Buy AT guns. Set them where they can gain a flank shot, set them to ambush, then when the flank shot presents itself change the command to defend and let them go at it..,. Slightly cheaty but not guiding the targeting recticle will help them remain in cover

Failing that buy flame throwers and stalk them
