Hypothetical WW3 scens ?

Post by Alpha77 »

I played OPART some years ago and tried out the WW3 scens provided. However I was interupted (job + family issues) to continue play and shelved the game. Now we have this new version and I consider to revisit the game.

Are the WW3 scens still part of it ? If yes, are these also updated to the newest version of the game ? Also I would like your view on the best scens overall to try out ? Please no east front or pure fantasy scens. Thanks.... this would be vs. the AI. Thanks.

As reference for WW3 I would name the old SSI game Red Lightning (one of my faves)

Mark has put together a new one called Armageddon 2015 - Europe and North Africa Version 1 and Roger and I playtested it and I think it's one of the best.  Just drop me a line and I'll send it to you.       fulkersonlarry60(at)gmail(dot)com.

Piero Falotti recently has uploaded two scenarios to Rugged Defence/The Strategist. He labelled them as beta, but maybe worth a look:

Alternate WWIII - Arctic Front

and Cuba

I've got to admit some frustration at the number of scenarios pitting the US against Russia, and yet there are no scenarios that depict the world as it really is. For example, there's no scenario involving the potential crisis with Iran developing nukes, getting al Qaeda out of Pakistan or some of these other potential middle east hotspots. take your pick. They're ALL hot now. It's just 'put the reds back on the other side of the fence where they belong'.

That was the appropriate response. Shame I couldn't go in with someone else who has more experience. But then, no one is going to hold my hand through it. At this point, the work seems overwhelming. I'll revisit this when I'm over this bout with the flu. Though so far, I have yet to create any scenario. I hate the expression; 'just saying' but I'm left with little else in response.

@ Mac Gregor: Well, I don´t like these scens with terrorism and/or so called Axis Of Evil nations etc. I am still living in the past, means cold war. Could be cause I liked the "feeling" in Berlin with the wall much better than todays without the wall. Also I was in the Luftwaffe just 1 year after the CW ended, we still trained with Russian plane models....and assumed the enemy comes from the east. Not from Iraq or A´stan. But thats just me....and I played endless WW2 scens in different games, so the CW is still quite fresh for me from a gamers perspective...

BTW: I created some CW scens for Steelpanthers, but I have no knowledge how to create scens in TOAW. And sadly no time to learn it, maybe if I would win 1 Mio. € then, yes......

I can understand that. Right now I'm watching my country's economy fold while hemorrhaging more cash in two wars that historically were never less understood by those funding them than by any country(except maybe yours in WW2)while we argue over cutting programs less than 5% the cost. Meanwhile the real 'Axis of Evil' (Tehran/Islamabad)have actually received millions, if not billions of dollars in aid -some in the form of our most sophisticated weaponry(how's that for solitaire hotseat). If ever there was a moral need for a scenario, this would certainly be it. While Pakistan may now have the F16C block50 fighters, Iran's front line would be the very same MiG-29s you're familiar with. BTW, the quote 'other side of the fence where they belong' was from a 70s comedy movie where he originally referred to the Germans. I'm off to work now, sick or not. Perhaps we could discuss this further.

Thank you Larry. I got a little food down and that made me feel a lot better. Amazing how easy it is to eat healthy stuff when you have no appetite. I guess I'll know I'm healthy when I'm back to thinking about sex, beer, and buffalo wings.
