Perhaps your opponent has never played a wargame.

Well, I guess I will never ask him this. He might disappear for good [8D] When I asked him -three of fours emails ago- if he thought that *perhaps* the game was over (when his AGN divisions were massacred) he totally evaded the question... So, as I have said he has the last word. I don't want to drop him (that would not be very elegant and polite). And the truth is this war will last 4 [real] years at this pace [:(] I am sending my turns in maximum 2 days. He sends his turns every 4 or 5 days. I always avoided PBEM games in WitP because it would take 2, 3 or 4 years to finish it...

You need to get another opponent. That "Pocket" attempt at Dnepropetrovsk, oh my goodness. AND it's mud next turn. I think the invitation to cut them off might actually be engraved!

Chalk up another Panzer Army there.....just pocket those guys, and put this game out of it's misery

The problem with this game for you T-D is that I think you have a pretty good strategic and tactical grasp, but you probably learned nothing from this.

Q-Ball, that's a ruthless advice but guess what... I'll be doing that IF I can [:D]

In fact yes, I think I learned something. On a next game I will NOT run away like I did on this game... I will not let my hordes die for nothing either (kamikaze tactics [&:]) but still... I think many times [on this game] I should have waited for him. The thing is, I will follow the gurus' advices: NO free spaces for panzers. ZOCs, ZOCs and more ZOCs...

And here we go... [:(] Operation Southern "Pic-a-nic" Basket. This is merely the first step... At the end of the turn there should be much more units here...

Oh, a question, if the now isolated units are attacked AND forced to retreat they will surrender?

If they retreat and do not end up next to one of your units they might not surrender. So it is best to move some units into the east of this pocket first.

Actually, if they have a hex that the Axis control to retreat to, they likely won't surrender. You can even make them stack up on each other until stacking limits kick in.

Thanks for the quick answers, Charon and Klydon [&o]

In fact I have attacked an ememy unit, and yes, Klydon is right. The only hexes available to retreat were next ro my units. It did not surrender though [8D]

I am bringing many units... Mud time next turn and I'll be keeping pressure NE of the AGS Panzers... If they try to help the trapped units... they might be in deep trouble, if I am not mistaken. And IF they don't, then boy, his trapped units are in deep trouble too. I will screenshot the whole thing [8D]

I don't think you can cut off the Panzers north of the Dnepr (that Inf Div link looks too strong), but you can definitely pin them against the river and make them starve while they pull back 1-hex per turn. Unless there are hidden units in that Gap N. of the Dnepr, but I assume you have reconned that....I would pour units into that gap.

With Mud next turn, though, those 5 units are in the bag.

Can't wait for winter, that will be interesting....

In Soviet Russia German Panzers are destroyed by the Germans themselves [8|]

Q-Ball, I am sending many units here... They are hugging the Panzers north of the Dnper (the in theory 7th cavalry)... It's going to be rather scary methinks. I hope I'm not wrong!

Oops, no I hadn't used the recon planes yet. He has some more units behind the panzers. Don't know if this is going to make a big difference though.

Ok, STAVKA reserves are in place [8D] Alea Iacta Est...

EDIT: oh, and my isolated cavalry division NW of Krivoi Rog has just cut off the rail line...

At this point losing a few units won't really hurt you. He needs to be rationalizing his lines for winter to the best of his ability, or you will have an even easier time streamrolling him in the blizzard.

Have you seen any of the destroyed AGN units moving back towards the front lines? I'm curious how long they take to reconstitute in '41. Never seen any Germans destroyed so early.[:D]

Ok, now I know where I want the many STAVKA strategic reserves used to help in the destruction of the AGN enemy units. The Western Front should not be a problem. The carpet defense already in place should be enough to stop my opponent. I am thinking about the Bryansk Front and if everything is ok and I'm rather lucky, they might help to destroy [?] the more or less trapped AGS Panzers. We are talking about around 25 or 30 infantry and cavalry divisions, infantry and tank brigades etc.

They will need minimum another turn to get there, by tchouk tchouk obviously.

Hmm no, not yet. I have no idea at all. When should they reappear?

Anyway, I guess he should need like 1 or 2 months minimum. Refit then ready, then move them to the front: 4, 6, 8 turns perhaps?

Well, I think at close to zero TOE back in the far west where his other reinforcements reappear, in an "unready" state. I'm not sure how long it takes for them to fill up TOE wise and be ready for combat. Probably still way to early to see them towards the front. But if FOW was off, I think we'd see them way back west of Berlin.

Edit: I think your estimate will be a good general guess.

I really don't know what's going to happen during the blizzard. In fact I don't want to know [8|] Maybe we don't get there by the way, as Q-Ball said... if I manage to create a big mess in his AGS zone. We will see.

In fact I got it wrong. I should deploy these STAVKA reserves a little more in the south, near Voronezh. Close to the enemy panzers in front of the Bryansk Front and close to er... the AGS Panzers [8D]
