The manual gives some info on how long it takes a reconstituted German unit to be created and ready to move.

Righto. Just curious how the book learnin' compares to the practical.[:)]

At this point losing a few units won't really hurt you. He needs to be rationalizing his lines for winter to the best of his ability, or you will have an even easier time streamrolling him in the blizzard.

I really don't know what's going to happen during the blizzard. In fact I don't want to know [8|] Maybe we don't get there by the way, as Q-Ball said... if I manage to create a big mess in his AGS zone. We will see.

Sorry, not trying to ruin the "surprise" for you.[;)]

You're not ruining anything (I was being sarcastic) [:)] I pretty well know what happens to the poor German forces during the blizzard (I have seen the other AARs)... when they are in good, decent shape [X(] But my opponent has already lost 13 divisions and 2 brigades, he hasn't advanced a lot in Russia. The blizzard offensive should be terrible IF I manage to prepare and execute half decent offensives that is, which I ignore [8D] According to Miller, no matter what, the offensive will work [:D]

If your opponent keeps playing like this you'll be into Germany in 1942.

As I said above, some attacks were possible in the Southern Front. I made three and all of them worked: minor Axis Allies are not very trustful. But they are of course great if I want to earn Guards status [&o]

Randall, I'm afraid you might be right after all. I suspect this game won't last much more though [8|]

Oops, I too made two attacks in the Western Front. Two enemy divisions were forced to retreat [:)]

I was being humorous with a touch of sarcasm back, or at least trying to be. LoL. It doesn't always translate well over the internet.[:'(]

Now back to reading the regularly scheduled AAR/buttkicking.[:)]

Yes, me too. I try to keep humour, always (that's why the "picnic" thing, the bears running after the little girl photoshop, or the monster under the bed). This is merely a game. As I see it, winning or losing is irrelevant (at least to me). FUN is what matters (as it should be). I will have to wait though. I have sent the turn so I guess he will send the turn in about 4 or 5 days [:)] Maybe he will manage to save his forces AND why not, surround some of my hordes (after all he IS supposed to do that!) Most German units destroyed are at 90% strength in about 4-6 turns. I had a Panzer Div cut off and destroyed on turn 5 when it got cut off when mud clobbered me. Was heading back to the front on turn 9. Of course it has average of 45 experience. The isolation routine needs some tweaking IMO.

Since your the only active AAR.

What are your plans for Winter? Where's the main push gonna be?

Are you gonna make a big mess on his rear?[:D][:'(]

Are you gonna document the carnage for the greater good?

Do I ask too many questions?

TD only makes messes "in" rears, not "on" them. Sheesh....[:D]

Well, I don't know if I will see the winter on this game [:)] If I do, then I guess I will have to improvise. Had he played a normal game aka spanked my a**, threatened Moscow and Leningrad, crippled the Red Army, I guess I would have been following Soviet strategy (just like I did with my summer deployment to contain the Germans). Main blow in Moscow area to smash the most dangerous German units (AGC) and minor attacks in all the other fronts.

But given that normality has never existed on this game, hmm... I guess I have two choices.

1) a main thrust in x area (a place which I think IS strategically more important: in the real war the Moscow Counter-offensive) + minor offensives in all the other sectors.
2) an attack along the whole fronts (you spread your offensive assets)

I think I would choose 1). In theory the weakest spot (right now though things may change) is his AGN thing so maybe the main blow would be there. The final objective would be to threaten his whole front north of the Pripyat Marshes. The Ukraine industrial centers are important as well but maybe a minor thrust would cover these objectives (because he hasn't advanced a lot).

Or... what about the Finnish? I can kick them out of this war if I capture Pskov (I'm already at 10 miles of the city) and Vyborg, if I remember correctly. But of course blizzard rules do not apply to the Finns, so hmm...

I'm pretty certain I am not using the English prepositions correctly most of the time. Just in case, I don't want to know the real meaning of either in/on + his rear [:D] I suspect one of those should be censored

Yes, you generally do use them correctly. [;)]

My side hurts from laughing now, though....[:D]

Your play has been good and the AAR funny at the same time. Well worth the read.

That's the spirit [8D] This is NOT a funeral. And given that I really don't care about the German / Soviet supermen or other theatrical issues (as long as a game stopper bug does not appear), sooooo...

P.S.: you should not have said anything. I would have said again and again and again (like the Duracell bunny) the "preposition + rear" thing. Now it's too late, I won't use it again [:D]

A couple of things to perhaps consider (since you have not really mentioned it and I apologize in advance, etc). First, I would form up some rail engineer brigades in your HQ units if you have not. These are good for repairing rail roads (obviously) and also helping troops dig in. You won't have a rail repair unit you can directly control until the fall of 42.

Because of the limitations of above (can only advance the rail head 1 hex per turn max, but can do multiple rail heads at once), I think you may be better off with a broad offensive instead of a more concentrated offense. IE, I think its better to push the whole front back 10 hexes for example, rather than trying to shove a Axis army group back 50 hexes. This will also give you a chance to work over the entire Axis army rather than just one section as well, inflicting more casualties and also providing more victories (and formation of guards units).

Certainly I would hand pick units and really good commanders for your shock armies that will be coming in soon. They can be downright mean with their extra moral bonus, etc and putting what guards units you get into them makes them even more nasty as the moral bonuses stack.

I also agree this has been an entertaining AAR. Well done. :)
