Question about how to "fix" borders

Post by Wisdom11 »

Hi folks, I have a problem with "seeing" my front borders properly. At some points it just doesn't seem to appear on the map. I'm not sure if it's my settings or an intentional feature in the new patch.

I've attached a map from one of my games to showcase. As you can see the black & orange front borders aren't continuous/consistent across the map (its worse in the actual games). It makes it difficult to discern my front when I'm assessing just the terrain (ie units off mode).

My fingers are crossed that there's an easy fix somewhere? If so, can anyone kindly give me a step by step on where/what files/folders to make the changes?

Lastly - and I might be pushing my luck here - is there a way to change the front border colors from the current orange/black to something else? If so, again, I'd be much obliged if someone can guide me.

Thank you

Checkout the play->Game Options->No Border setting to make sure it's in the "OFF" position and then refresh your screen by hitting the space bar one time. Your borders should reappear. I'm guessing here that your no borders setting is "on" you see.

As for the color of your border: there's a bmp file in your graphics directory called borders.bmp and it holds the image for your border. If you feel comfortable editing that file you can change the color(s) to anything you like. Alternately, you can use the borders.bmp I'm using instead. See the next post below.

Just unzip the attachment and drop that bad boy into your AltGraphics folder and you should be good to go. If TOAW is already running when you make the change you'll have to re-start TOAW to see the change take effect.

Thanks Larry. That did the trick indeed! And thanks very much for sharing your border files.

No problemo my friend.  And keep those good questions coming.  I'd like to think I'm sorta helpful.
