Two possibles spring to mind:

It might be HMS Centurion, the old de-militarized battleship that was used to try and fool the Italians that the Mediterranean Fleet still had an operational battleship for use with the ill-fated "Vigorous" convoy.

It might be HMS Repulse. I seem to recall that the British tried to keep the identity of Force Z secret (presumably so Japan did not know how hopelessly inadequate it was [:(]). They would have been only to pleased to announce the modern and battle hardened battleship (Prince Of Wales) was heading to Singapore, but the un-modernised battlecruiser Repulse may have had a less than worrying effect on the Imperial Japanese Navy.

I have the feeling the Repulse might be the answer to one of your three questions. Also the Renown. I considered the Resolution but soft 'e' pronunciation doesn't work. So based on your wording above I'm going with:
