Groundhog Day in Uncommon Valor?

Post by PBYPilot »

A friend and I are playing Scen 17 in v2.1. We started over when v2.1 became available

Got through turns 1 and 2 ok.

My friend, who is playing the Japanese, completed his orders for turn 3. He sent them to me and they arrived, along with the combat results for turn 2. The file is labeled "UV008_ver2.01JapT3.uvs" It showed up in slot 8 just fine. When I went open it after watching the combat replay from turn 2, I was presented with the order screen for 5/2/42. Same weather and unit dispositions and orders as at the start of turn 2.

I had him send the turn again, (he duplicated his orders for turn 3). Now the file is labeled "UV010_ver2.01JapT3.uvs" . And it shows up in slot 10 OK. And same thing. When I open it I'm presented with the weather and starting positions for 5/2/42 instead of 5/3/42.

Are we condemned to play 5/2/42 eternally? Anybody else see the same thing in their PBEM games? Any ideas?

Hi

This happened to me once and it drove me crazy. I must have send/played one turn 6 times! Anyway my problem was that the file was copy protected so it would not save so when my PBEM buddy recieved it it was still the old one. My stupid Outlook now for some strange reason copy protects any file that I move from my emails.

Well just an idea.

Thanks Dan, but I don't think that is the problem in this case. I checked everything in my e-mail software, and I don't think that it copy protects the file. Thanks for responding.

Hi PBYPilot,

This is just a wild *** guess on my part but ask your friend if he has two files in his UV save game directory that start with uv008*. If so I suspect he keeps reading in the older (5/2/1942) of the two files over and over regardless of what file you send. Have him remove the older file and replot his turn and you should be fine, I think :)

file not saved

Post by mogami »

Hi, What ever the reason, the file is not being written over when he ends turn. Make sure he is saving the turn. (I forget to save everyonce in a while. End turn click file but instead of clicking save I click exit and send the file. You have to wait for the file to save, after you click save. Also make sure program reports game saved
(I have gotten "error file not saved" before. I had to save into a new slot. and delete the old save before I could use that slot again. (next turn)

Thanks Mogami and Gus, but I am sure I saved it fine, and I checked the dates and times and it all seems kosher to me. In fact, when PBYPilot first informed me that I sent him the wrong turn I knew I had not, as I followed the same routine (through now 5 aborted attempts at playing Scenario 17). So 90 file transfers have gone fine all the way through ver. 2.00, and now we are stuck on 5/2/42 (we'll I'm not, just him!) in version 2.01.

On another thread, a system that had problems sounded a lot like my set-up (Pentium 4, 1.8 Ghz, 256 Ram, GeForce Ti 200, integrated audio). Perhaps when 2.11 comes out it will fix the problem.

Lol, this exactly happened to me one named uv006_scen.uvs, my file before patching to 2.11 and the other i received from gus was named uv006_PBEM_gb_vs_gw.uvs . When i loaded it , it alwayss asked for players two password, the only thing that helped was deleting the old file and renaming the new one exactly with the name the old one had. That fixed the problem, simply deleting the old one didn`t help, i still got asked for players two password.
