What could be scraped together. But they are creating trouble for Ivan! [8D] Look at next map!

Turn 9

North of Lipetsk, I once again change direction to keep the Sovs guessing. I make a new encirclement to the east (this is beginning to feel repetitive now).

And in the Smolensk - Rzhev sector, the local panzer forces, sometimes judged pitiful, have managed an encirclement!

Note also forces (withdrawn from Demyansk) massing behind Velike Luki in preparation for stage 2 of evil plan...

But, is it all worthwile? In the end, only the casualty tally can tell. At the moment, it seems i inflict roughly 2-1 in manpower losses, 5-1 in artillery and 3-1 in AFV. I am afraid this isn't enough... And it is not becoming easier. Soviet strength is growing all the time.

Losses end of turn 9.

I'm just curious what the TOE is for a 3 CV panzer division.

Open the 42-45 scenario and take a look.

Turn 10 is spent by regrouping and resting the panzers around Voronezh. Meanwhile, intelligence reports heavy enemy buildup in the area west of Stalingrad and in the Rostov area. They have tried to establish bridgeheads across the rivers, which I promptly push back. But most worrying, one bridgehead proves impossible to eradicate, east of Rostov. I strongly suspect Ivan is up to something in this area. I pull togethere what reserves I have, but many of the available troops are allies of doubtful fighting value...

Rostov front, with troublesome bridgehead marked, end of German turn 10.

And the front further to the north, west of Stalingrad show the same ominous signs of enemy buildup...

By popular demand, the TOE of 2d panzer division, now a 2-strength panzer division! I believe in driving them hard! No rest for the wicked!

Interestingly, they have one M3Lee, that's pretty cool for a German panzer division!

Turn 11. At first glance, I thought nothing had happened down south, but on closer examination, it appears the Ivans did try something, only they didn't get very far. Our valiant chaps are holding the line! And now that annoying bridgehead is going to get a dose of special treatment... [:D]

End of turn 11. Bridgheads eliminated down south, order restored. In the Tula area we chew another 6 division sized bite out of the Soviet front and encircle it. The maneuver plan (see #17) seems to be working well! I sense that the Soviet forces in the central sector are weak, but does that mean they are hurting or that they are massing forces elsewhere for a hammer blow? I move one panzer corps down south to have more mobile reserves just in case.

Meanwhile in the Rzhev - Smolensk area The Little Panzer Division That Could

I would like some reader input, is this level of detail interesting? I feel that sometimes I am repeating myself with one encirclement each turn. Would you like updates every 2 or 3 turns, or a larger picture? Bigger maps? Reader input welcome.

I like it the way it is. Since you ask, a somewhat bigger maps would be fine (ie same level of zoom but enlarged to cover 3-4 hexes more in each direction. Thanks.

Good to see something going other than 1941.

Thanks for the feedback! I actually keep the size of the maps down on purpose, as I often access the forum from a laptop. With a smaller screen it takes a lot of scrolling around to read the text, which will widen with a large picture. But I will give some thought to increasing the map size. I also sometimes play the game on the laptop, which will kind of impose a natural limit on the map size.

every aar that is so decribed as yours is a benefit.
Thank you for it.

i like also that it is no 41-scenario, cause if we have problems with the engine in 42, these problems can only be detected if someone play such scenarios... with this all the 41-gc-players benefit from it.
But besides this, i like your style
Don't tickle yourself with some moralist crap thinking we have some sort of obligation to help these people. We're there for our self-interest, and anything we do to be 'nice' should be considered a courtesy dweebespit
