Gonna file that away for later use.

The Russian version is monkey with a live grenade. [:D]

in US Navy brown-shoe land, we used to solve that problem by keeping them in training until they made the next rank (Ensign -> LTjg)...once in an operational squadron, the nugget j.g.'s were affectionately known as the "buyer of the first round" in the O'club on friday night, or the "toter of the crypto gear" (NFO) and "filer of the flight plan" (Pilot) during preflight on cold, rainy days/nights (the distance from Operations to the plane parking spot was usually just far enough to ensure thourough soakage by the time take off came around - of course, we never bothered to tell them that the duty section in Ops usually had a vehicle and driver that would have given them a lift)...the black-shoes pretty much ate their own, as far as i could tell...[:D]

And of course the NFO nuggets were known by the enlisted aircrew as "prey". [:D]

He was a radio/electronics officer in a naval reconnaissance squadron. I think that means that he was responsible for the maintenance and repair of aircraft-mounted things that had lights and went "beep". This was in the 50's, however, so I'm guessing the "electronics" is a bit of a stretch. [:D]

I tried to ask him about the specifics a few times but he rattled off some equipment model numbers and specifications and my eyes glazed over. [:D]

Thinking about starting in on Ken Burns' Civil War series.  I haven't watched it in 7 or 8 years.  I may try to talk my son into watching with me.  [:)]
I don't much care for the US Civil War, Mike. Many reasons that I won't go into here. But I very much enjoyed this series, as did my wife. This was my first exposure to Shelby Foote and he converted both of us to the series. It's probably a good series to watch with a young man to expose him to the issue. [8D]

I'm getting worried, Mrs Dixie is making dinner but she's closed the serving hatch so I can't see into the kitchen.  I hope she isn't putting poison in my pancakes [X(][X(]
