Converting COW scenarios

Post by mamnich24 »

Dear Guys,
Am I correct that to convert a COW scenario into TOAW3, I just open it in the TOAW scenario editor, then save as same name it was into one of the Scenario folders?

Mamnich,

And then you will need to rebalance the scenario for 3.4 which will take a fair bit of playtesting. Worth the effort though.

Best wishes,
Steve

Yes, but my understanding is that given the improvements that the TOAW patches (especially the new beta) provide in comparison with ACOW, some scenarios need more complex changes in order to play well than just saving in TOAW III.

Saving in TOAW III is rather a prerequisite.

Dear Guys,
Thanks for the help. I'm trying to import an old TOAW 1 user scenario, Solomon Struggle, into TOAW 3. I have it in COW, so thought it was updated to that, but I get message it is not able to load in this version. I tried resaving the scenario in COW editor, but says I have insufficient free resources to load it. I've tried deleting background programs, temporary files, etc., but I get same result.
Anyone have Solomon Struggle updated?
Any easy ways to free system resources in XP, so I don't get that problem with COW?
Thanks,
Mike

I've run across a couple of scenarios with that same message. One was a Smolensk scenario for COW. I don't get concerned because there are so many other scenarios.

Solomon Struggle converted?
Here ya go... Thanks to member "japlance" for the conversion.
Remove the '.txt' after downloading
Also maybe best to check the events list, cuz conversion can cause some events , especially withdrawals or disbanding to be incorrect

Has anybody successfully converted to v3+ older COW-and-before scenarios for any of these WWII Pacific theaters/battles:
  • Burma (the very old circa v1 scenarios, beyond the several "officially" provided in v3.4)
  • Malaysia (saw a very old v1 (?) scenario at Rugged Defense)
  • DEI (Indonesia; ditto)
  • Saipan (ditto)
  • Corregidor (ditto)
  • Bataan (just that; not the full Luzon campaign)
I think I might still have my COW install CD lying around somewhere (not sure), but I'd rather not go to the trouble of re-installing (and patching) if it gains me nothing.

I was so happy to see at Rugged Defense the v3-compatible Operational Cartwheel (Rabaul) scenario. [8D] Hoping to get more of the same.
