AI not AI-ing

Post by larryfulkerson »

I started up WITE and chose computer player for both sides and picked the first campaign listed and hit the load scenario button and the map displays but nothing happens. It just sits there on my monitor laughing at me. Is there a key combo to start the AI?

Press the end turn button and it should launch.

Okie dokie........now I have a different problem.  I want to let the AI play against the AI overnight since a campaign is sooooooooo many turns long.  So if I sit there watching the movie for long enough without moving the mouse or clicking on anything etc. , the computer ( Windows 7 ) will go into hibernation mode and shut down.  So I'm hoping that there's some programatic way for WITE to convince the operating system that "something is still happpening" and not shut the computer down.  Age of Empires does it somehow so I'm thinking it's possible.  Otherwise there's no way to get the AI to play against the AI overnight on my computer unless I sit there with this bad boy moving the mouse every 3 minutes or so.

There is a free program called "Mouse Move" or something similar, that does exactly what you want. It automatically simulates the mouse move so the computer doesn't go to sleep.

Yeah, thanks for your input but I solved my problem by right clicking on my desktop, choosing Preferences, and setting my screensaver to "none" and power-down to "never". It's been working like a champ ever since. Um........the problem I was trying to solve is this:

The ongoing debate between the "the game isn't broken" and "the game is broke and unplayable" camps over the "winter '41" problem isn't going to be solved by opinions alone.....we need data to test. So I'm letting the computer play itself over and over to get some real data one way or another. How many times does the Russian "win" verses how many times does the German "win". I figure that with some real data we can get a better idea of whether or not the game is "broken".
