Weather

Post by Spartan3056 »

I am looking for anyone's thoughts on weather in their PBEM. I am currently playing the side of the Rising Sun in a PBEM, and its February of 44. So far the only effect for either side is difficulty in locating TFs. Fighters and bombers for both sides are bombing during thunderstorms and severe weather. There does not seem to be any effect on CAP or accuracy.

In addition, large amounts of troops or moving through terrain during these storms at a pace that would have been impossible in good weather. The game is set for full weather effects.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the effects of weather in their campaigns?

Thanks ahead of time for your consideration.

This is one of those things that's largely opinion based, which is probably why you havn't had any replies.

For myself I can say with a reasonable degree of confidence that weather does effect bombing missions. After a lot of time playing you tend to notice the nuances of when and why flight ops don't go off as planned and the impression I get is that weather does play a factor in whether bombing missions launch. I'm not to sure about the cap side of things, whether or not weather effects them as much as offensive ops, or to any degree at all.

I've never even really considered the land side of things in regards to weather, but you're right, it should have an impact. The land war side of witp however is... lacking in many respects. I think witp started out an airwar and naval war game first and foremost with the landwar being a secondary focus, and this seems to have carried over to this day. It wouldn't surprise me if weather didn't effect land ops at all.

Sredni, thanks for the post. Your probably right about the varying opinions on my question. I have closely watched the weather & results on day to day air operations. It just seems to me that alot of aircraft are dropping bombs in weather that they would not have flown in. Those aircraft weren't made to repeatedly fly in bad weather let alone hit within miles of a target.

It was a matter of navigation or lack thereof if nothing else.

Again, thanks for your reply.
