No to both.

Unofficial clue (of no help whatsoever!) - both aircraft happen to be my favourite WWII aircraft from the UK and the USA respectively.

Since it is the US Navy, the Royal Navy as well as the Kiwis, can it be the Corsair?

It could be, but its not [;)] Apparently the US Marine Corps used the Corsair too.

Is the correct answer - well done yet again SirWhiskers.

Definitely my fav US aircraft of WWII (in FAA colours of course [;)]).

Great design, full of character, and a very important aircraft for both the USN and the RN.

Since the Avenger is the US ac, that means we are after a Brit one, so I am wondering about the Avro Lancaster, although it is more "first half" than "around the middle" I suppose.
