2.0/2.10 questions

Post by estaban »

First, as a Japanese player, I noticed that the computer was no longer flying all the torpedo bombers in my carrier squadrons. Here is a section of an email that I wrote that explains:

"On a game play note, did you notice your torpedo bomber squadrons were now reserving aircraft instead of flying them? I had squadrons with 18 bombers that were only flying 14 of them and keeping the others in reserve. This started with the new patch. I don't know whether it was intentional or not, or but I think it has to do something with the game literally interpreting the part of the manual that says a squadron will try to keep about 4 more pilots than the number of aircraft. So if the squadron has 18 aircraft and 19 pilots, it is will only have 15 aircraft operational and keep 3 in reserve."

Should this be happening? I haven't seen it happen with the dive bomber, fighter or level bomber squadrons.

2. After 2.10, the PBEM security is still insisting that I exit the program in order to switch between saved games. Very annoying.

3. On a non-2.0/2.10 note, I have noticed that some of my squadrons that were heavily attrited have not rebuilt the number of pilots they should have, even after months out of combat. I can understand having to replace the old, good pilots with trainees since the old pilots are dead. I can understand having to wait awhile until the planes are there to bring the squadron up to good strength again. However, I can't understand a squadron that has built back to 15-16 bombers, but still only has 6-7 pilots, even after a month or two of relative inactivity. What gives?

Me too.

In scenario #17 started with ver 2.0 but played with ver 2.1

In a CV battle in June 1942, none of the Kates launched in four attacks over two days. On the third day I withdrew all the Kates and replaced them with some planes from the Shoho (which was at Shortlands) and at the start Zeroes and Clauds. I also transfered the planes from Shokaku to the other two CV and because you can transfer with virtually no fatigue I had two near full strength CV to continue fighting with, but my opponent withdrew from the battle.

The Allied TBD didn't fly either although they were in range for one day of the battle.

Now that I think about it, Kates haven't been flying from Lunga either.
I'm a hazard to myself.

One thing I noticed with my Allied CVs (haven't checked the Japanese recently) is that the TBs seem to begin the game with zero naval patrol. Increase this to 20% (or whatever you like), as often squadrons won't fly based on someone else's information (getting it too late, old info?).

The reason the TB dont fly most of the time is because they are out of range, whenever the TB's have been in range they have flown (usually not hit much) but at least they fly. Remember they only have a range of 4 hexes
