The kill stripes come from the decal. The decal has both the number and the stripes. So you have to change the decal to change the strioes.
The decal is assigned by the scenario. That particular Tiger's number is 1331, which was Michael Wittmann's number at Kursk.

So, how do the "decals" in question impact gameplay?[&:]

Decals have no affect on game play. They are just for looks. Well, I guess they have a little affect as you can tell what tank it is by the decal.

It's an immersion factor. Like the flowers, clouds in the sky, cows in the fields, etc.

Unless of course you are in Normandy where the only cover for GI's were dead cows then they become a factor....[:D]

As you can see the decals are in the tactical display mode for that nations units. Each vehicle is assigned it's own decal, or no decal at the scenario designers wish.

This will really be interesting when we start seeing mods for specific tanks and tank aces. In the past all models were displayed using only one model per vehicle type. While PCO still does that it allows for different decals to be placed on the vehicles to change the numbers, kill stripes, etc. It's one of the things we are still working on adding. All the numbers sets for all the vehicles in the game. Trying also to give more than just a single option. So you may choose red or white for instance. As you can see some of this takes time.

Add the grass and decal changes to the scenarios when you are done though and the immersion factor goes WAY UP! [&o]

Stridor did an amazing job with this!

Good Hunting.

For all who have never MOD'd before or with limited experience with it, What would be the chances of getting a short all in one blurb on which programs work the best with reguards to making vehicle/weapon/soldier MOD's, and maybe a little primer on doing so. I have found snippets here and there but one post with with a good mix of materials would be great.
Love the Vehicle numbers by the way.

There are a few things in the old K forum that are stickied. When I get home tonight I'll look and see what is still relevant.

the more I see, the more I don't mind the wait! It's obvious that a lot of hard work is going into this game. Speaking of immersion though, what about sound? That's one aspect of the game that I haven't read much about. The graphics are now way better than I hoped for, but I wonder if the sound effects have been overhauled as well. It going to be real cool to hear those T34s in action!

There has been a fair bit of work done on the sound effects. junk2drive did a lot of the sound file work. one of the latest things added was the ability for the map designer to incorporate sounds that are specific to map locations (think of a burning building), or maybe insects near a marsh area.

thanks

Sound comes in different flavors as well. There is the normal background sound. The usual combat sounds associated with weapons and those are location specific; so when a weapon fires, the closer you are, the louder it is. Same with vehicle movement noises. But that's all standard computer wargame fare.

J2D and Stridor went beyond that. They put in weather related sounds as well. The wind blowing over a field. The differences between a light drizzle and a heavy downpour. You can literally attach both the grass and an associated sound to a location on the map and have that location be unique to the rest of the map.

Good Hunting.

Whoever is, or isn't, currently on the project doesn't change the contributions made by those that created them.

Yes but please, for old times sake, don't ever mention my name in connection with this product again.

Here is an interesting little fact which will only have meaning for those in the know. [;)]

I downloaded and played the latest Dragon Age 2 demo. Bought the full game, installed it. However the link to the game in the MS games window still points to the demo (and doesn't tell you). Click on that by honest mistake and it locks your machine (once the full game is installed).

AAA+ title. I bet that created a lot of support headaches hey? [8|]

Seriously why is this game not released yet? The demo at least should have gone out at least 2 months ago. Why do I know this? Because I wrote it.

Of course. I'll do whatever you ask. For old times sake or simply because you're a good friend and you asked.

And I'd like to thank you for everything. Not just the coding but EVERYTHING! I still owe you considerably on a personal level. I'll be taking care of some of that soon I hope.

Best of luck to you in all your future projects. If you need anything from me you know where to find me.

Spring wheat and spring flowers. Just depends on which field you're in at the time.

Each texture has it's own specifics as to height and LOS blocking capabilities.

It's not nice to let the cat's out to play even if they do have ID numbers on them.

Here's a cat in the same platoon. All you do to add the decals is to click on the individual vehicles in the scenario editor and select the decal you want for it. Takes all of about 5 seconds per vehicle.

They said the enemy was coming from the east but I don't see them....

What I do see is a lot of different options for grass textures available.
