No air attacks on Kiska. Perhaps Raver had problems with overstacking at Adak and Dutch (the Allies actually have too many aircraft for the airfields at the start...I actually had to put some Canadian Kittyhawks on an AK at Dutch to make room).

SS Iodine 159 hits a friendly mine at Kiska while trying to lay mines herself. Doh! She has 60 percent float damage...gack! I have ordered all M&M Enterprises maps destroyed.

By the way, would it help to put a damaged sub in port at Attu (level 2 port) to pump out some of the flooding now at 60%...or can a level 2 port not do that?

... but seriously, all ports (except level 0) can pump out flooding down to the "major flooding" damage level. Larger ports do it faster, though.

Cool, port call at Attu it is. I guess I could have put in at Kiska but that is more vulnerable and she already had a bad expereince with the mines.

Someday I am going to read the manual. I really am.

Unless they brough some Korean women "volunteers" with them, I am pretty sure the pickings will be pretty slim on Attu and Kiska.

Turn 4:

27 B-24's raided Attu, the Oscars did no damage but one 24 was lost to operational cause (bird strike? bad weather? M&M Enterprises maps?).

Iodine-35 was hit by a dud torpedo from an S-boat near Adak. That must have been a major pucker event. DMS Long was hit by an exploding type torpedo from Idonine-169, also near Adak.

Northern Army HQ is safely ashore at Attu. The fast transport taffy will retire to PJ before the US cruisers show up.

Oh, um, by the way...

You cannot launch offensive missions from a size 1 AF. That's for defensive CAP and related missions only. So sorry. What is the status of your build towards level 2 at Attu? Will you be finished by the end of the scenario? Until then, I can't think of how your AF HQ will benefit you there. [:'(]

ETA: Re-read your post. You're putting IJ Northern HQ on Attu, not the Air HQ, right? Are you *also* putting the air HQ up there? I'm unclear what benefits you believe your will derive from a general HQ on Attu. I don't believe that will provide a torpedo device.

Turn 5&6: The Allied crusiers bombarded Kiska but did not do much damage. Unfortunately, one of my 10 pts subs ran afoul of a USN ASW group in deep water about 120 me ENE of Adak. Single squadron B-24 raids on Attu are bouncing around the frozen rocks.

Sunk ships claims an Allied S boat sunk by mines near PJ. That would indeed be nice. She was probably trying to offensively mine PJ. Construction at Attu is very slow. I may have to turn off fortification construction.


In the mirror game, a Jap AMC hit an Allied mine at Attu and two minsubs have now been sunk by B-25 raids. DMS Southard may or may not have been sunk.

Turn 7,8 & 9: True to her name, APD Kamikaze discovered an Allied minefield at Attu. She is now "pierside" (actually an old lava flow) at Attu trying to get all the dead anchovies out of the foreward torpedo room (65% flooding). Engineers ashore have offered two shop vacs (Brack and Decker), a hand pump and some adult diapers.

One B-24 was shot down over Attu by ground fire <makes razz sound>. USS Mustin "took one up the chuff"* by a sub West of Dutch Harbor. Meanwhile, Time Bandit is 280 m NE of Dutch Harbor in heavy seas. Her last pot had only 12 snow crab and the Captain is mad at the first mate because he allegedly shagged the cook.

At Dutch Harbor, a third CA will have arrived (note cool use of future subjunctive..I think) and the Bijou is playing Sands of Iwo Jima.

Attu now has an air HQ, Northern Pacific HQ and the Paramashiro Canine Training Corps.

I am just getting used to the PST/Eastern Australia time differential. It is not very efficient for exchanging 2 turns a day. If I lose it will have been on purpose so I dont have to deal with all those ships and units in the Marianas scenario. [:'(]

Some of us are operating under MST, which is not to be confused with PDT. The conversion from MST to PDT is +0 hours. Or is it -0 hours? I always get those confused.

Turn 10: A newly arrived "Mixed Brigade" is beinged* embarked to moved to Attu. I appointed a hot shot General to take over Northern Army and the CD unit at Attu changed command to Northern Army.

Meanwhile, in the mirror game, a USN taffy consisting of all 3 CA's, 2 CL and 7 DD's was attempting a combat sweep West of Attu but apparently diverted to the map edge row to escape a Jap sub and become entrapped in an ice flow or something. The entire TF will not take orders. I have asked Dave to go back one turn as there was otherwise little action for the turn. Losing 85-90% of the USN surface strength would be bad. By my reckoning it is about 5:30 AM there. He is probably out on his morning 8 mile run.
