Bomb unit mode...is it useful ?
I was wondering if bombing unit is really useful or it is better to send your airunits to other duties.
When I face armored units in front of my rifle squads a bombing raid could solve the problem.
Any tips on how to use at your advantage ?

Good question. Bombing units seldom if ever results in many casualties but it may have an invisible disruptive effect. I'd like to know. Bottom line though, your air units are only ever going to conduct one such mission per turn so they'll have plenty of miles left to fly.

I think the devs confirmed the "invisible" disruptive effects.
Bombing HQ's is the best way to kill their leaders.

Thanks Jomni, that sounds like one stink of a bug.

Yes, they are invisible disruption effects, but I am lobbying for more direct casualties. I do use them as belt and braces when attacking urban hexes.

Is Interdiction automatic. I don't see anywhere where I can designate certain hexes for interdiction from my air bases?

Count me in on that vote!

Direct bombing rarely destroys AFVs. [:(]
RE: Bomb unit mode...is it useful ?
My guess is that in my game, the entire Luftwaffe is going to destroy fewer tanks than whoever that ace was (Hans Rudel(?), read the book like 30 years ago so I am kind of fuzzy). Stukas might as well be Sopwith Camels as far as anti-tank and survivability against WWII fighters are concerned. Had two shot down by some guy with a pea shooter last turn.

It was Hans-Ulrich Rudel. Book is called 'Stuka Pilot'. Just over 500 AFVs + about 30 a/c IIRC tho' most of the a/c kills where when flying fighters for a break. Perhaps we should have a Rudel counter just like we had in DNO. His unit had a 1/3 chance of destroying an armour brigade every (fortnightly) turn.

Great book and count me in on the "Rudel" counter...lol!

Yes back in the older game days (SF/WiR), what I used to start my turns with was to a) find a suitable target with lots of soviet armor and then b) proceed to attack them with my JU-87G stukas. Greatly enjoyed that [;)] , and also a realistic exploit/consequence of air superiority me thinks.
As previously mentioned such attacks are pointless currently, all AFVs have the latest shielding tech so no damage.

for the russian
you have so many U2VS which can't do anything else
choice is quick, better to don't attack Pz Div too much flak

Sometimes I think they got bits of Armada 2526 or Distant Worlds blended into the game by error. SU tanks seem to have neutronium armor and Class 5 shields and my Stukas have had their heavy mass drivers and Class 6 Phaser cannons replaced by a co-pilot with a luger. So I concur with the view that, for the Axis, ground attacks are, at best, a waste of time - as are airfield attacks which is a much bigger problem. I have no idea how to deal with the ever growing SU airforce starting in '42.

LOL!
Hey wasn't it Star Trek Enterprise wherein the end of that series they had an Alternate WWII in which the Aliens of sort were helping the Nazi's and in the invasion of America they had Stuka's with Plasma or Phaser Cannon's instead of those puny 37mm AT guns mounted on the undercarriage?
On a different note, I noted that besides the first turn where strikes seem to work, Ground Support attacks are also the best killers of Aircraft assuming both the Soviet & Germans set the GS to on and a reasonable Air Doctrine set by both sides. I guess reasonable as in typical more or less... It is still however nuts that you can't do Base Strikes with any kind of reasonable expectation of outcome though...

Self bump.
Can anyone from the inside actually give us any meaningful information regarding this function please?

I tried to bombing HQ too, but I never had a successful result. No losses, maybe disruption or fatigue...

My opinion is that there's a very high variance on the results you get depending on the strength of AAA in the hex under attack and the presence of CAP (or lack of thereof). Watching closely battle reports at high message levels should give us a hint.

Sorry, all I can say is that a lot of analysis is going on on the whole air model, but it is unlikely the air model will be addressed in 1.04.
There is substantial disruption caused by bomb unit, and I really wish disruption could be made visible (it is on the list, but probably a long way down the list.
For every "must win" combat; I use bomb unit, and I do win the vast majority of battles when I use it, even though the direct loss numbers are truly pathetic.
