Arena Football Depth Chart Creator

Post by mbsports »

From the desk of the guy trying to make Arena Football Work in MBFL...

One of the biggest issues that I've had continually with Max FB in an Arena universe is the rules of substitution that MaxFB force. IE you can't put a RB in at LB. Quite frankly it is a frustrating deal because heck no one really thought this part out and it was bolt on to allow for it to be in - somewhat but not the core focus.

So here's what the ole' MB has in store for the community because if you want to do indoor this is kind of important to you. I'm creating an excel sheet that actually allows you to put any player in at any position - pretty stupid eh?

I'm using the fantastic indoor playbook done by Gary Sorrell - I've tweaked this puppy pretty extensively with constants files to get a very realistic game of Arena Ball out of it - very fun so far.

Every team has 50 roster spots so what will need to be done is each spot will have to be properly filled by a player and then you copy/paste the output into the sim. Will it work? Honestly I don't know, I'm a little concerned about how things work but I think I can get something going. This will be solely for my AFL league, my AF2 league I'm allowing a little more specialization in having LBs come in and play LB and RBs play RB and not forcing a player to go both ways.

If this works what I would do is release it to the community but I also would release customized versions to any commisioner who'd want it. This way a commisioner for any league, be it CFL, CIS, NFL, College would be able to create their depth charts outside of Max FB and have an easy method to just copy and paste in.

Anyone try this yet? and if so what were your thoughts?

Thanks,

Mb

And this now works I figured out the formulas.

It does have to be setup custom for a league though so if anyone wants me to custom build one for them - it does save some time if you're setting special lineups with players outside of traditional positions. IE you want a Woody Dantzler to be a KR and a QB or something like that.

Let me know if anyone is interested and I can build it for your league or a single team even for a league specifically. Just drop me an email/pm and it shalt be done.

I cant even use 20 man rosters with the 8 man game as it is. I always use 40 or even 53. It seems the game likes to leave spots open. And there is nothing worse than the dreaded Linebacker named 'LB', who apparently walks in off the street and lines up for one of the teams [:@]

Anything that can improve rosters in Arena ball is a big plus. I will gladly try anything you come up with.

Well this solves that problem 100% because we can set that CB2 position really easily or that OL2 position really easily this way as opposed to having to set every spot inside of Max FB and not being able to use actually available players out of position.

I'll email you what I've got right now and you can check it out a bit.  You won't be able to do anything with it yet but you can play with it a bit.

I'm a little confused in why you are having trouble with the Arena game of MF.  Not sure why you are using 50(!?) slots for an Arena team.  Maybe I don't understand what your problem is, but I have done just fine with the 20 man Roster slot feature.

Ya, I have found that the program does not work well for Ironman Football substitution, but I think I have found a solution that makes Ironman Football possible with the 20 man roster sizes.  Simply setup a 20 man roster with 3 QB's, 1 K, 10 WR's, 6 OL.  You use the WR's in a variety of postions, mostly WR/DB's, but you can use them for FB/LB position, or have 2 or 3 of them as designated Defensive Specialists.  I have used this setup and it works well for Ironman Football for the Arena game.

Well Magnum that is a solution that works for the most part and I agree - totally possible to do that.  Part of what I am trying to do though is to make it a league that I can update with my web templates and for that we need to have some positions.  My little file does solve the problems b/c it allows for some other alterations fairly easily as well but I think you've duplicated the solution set heh.

I'm also probably working off of a different set of playbooks, maybe not but there are probably more options.

So far as 50 slots - that covers every formation offense, defense, and ST so I dunno if it is that far out of line.

Was there a file attached to this thread?
I broadcast Arena football and we have to make our depth charts by hand each game.
Would be nice not to have to do it all by hand.
