Is there any way to force engineer units to do what some of them really did: build roads, improve roads, build railroads, etc?

So, no Al-Can highway, Bridge on the River Kwai, etc.?

With all the rest of the minute details to manage, thats a pretty big detail to miss

Correct, no Al-Can, no bridge.

To incorporate them you would need to replace the pwhex file.
