Time to get something off my chest regarding PG 3SE

Post by Texican »

I know this is only semi-related to Panzer Corps, and from a different game, and I'm all for reusing maps if units cross the same ground during different times in the war, but did anyone notice that the map to the Caucasus scenario in PG SE was the same darn map used in the Kasserine scenario of PG 3D? They just colored one desert and the other snow, and renamed some towns. BOOOOOO....

Just who did they (devs) think they were fooling? We are grognards, are we not!

This is normal in the PG series. The scenarios in PeG for example are the same ones as in PG2, though they may change the seasons to half-disguise this.

No, not at all what I meant. I don't mind using the terrain in France and Belgium for "France 1940" and "Ardennes Offensive" scenarios. I'm talking about using the same geography for the Caucasus as you would for Kasserine Pass. The Caucasus and Tunisia are something like 2,000 miles apart! As the crow flies!

They were pulling a fast one and saving on dev time, is what I'm talking about.

Hmm, well I'd have to go back and check but I guess I'll take your word for it for now. I guess if people missed it, it's because PG3D was such a PoS in comparison to SE, that no one would go back to the former.  Though SE had its own major faults as well. Sad to say, which is why the III series was such a failure.

I loved Panzer General III Scorched Earth. Mucho fun. I could never get PG 3D to work on any of my computers. It would move so slow that it was unplayable for me. I mean extremely slow. I own the darn thing, but it won't run properly. So I can't say if it was any good or not.

I really liked PG I alot also. I liked the terrain tiles, they looked great. I prefered them to PG II painted tiles. Although they looked nice, PG I tiles were better for me.

Surely if the geography is similar then it is reasonable - from what I've seen of this game it isn't claiming to be exact to the nearest yard. Both regions are pretty lumpy!

I don't care about terrain accuracy, but if a dev, for example, takes the France map, renames Paris to Moscow and renames the English Channel to the Baltic Sea, I'm going to be suspicious. Hehe.

But anyway, this whole thread was in regard to something I noticed once, involving the PG 3D and PG 3E. Was really just seeing if anyone else had noticed it.
