PBEM Admin Menu Instructions

Post by pzgndr »

I posted a zip file in the mods section with some proposed changes to the manual based on the v1.08.05 patch. Soon to be released finally? Whenever it is released, PBEM game hosts can try out the new features and provide feedback on the documentation. The plan is to update the v1.09 manual with the changes.

OK no one else seems to have commented yet so I'll have a go.

I've never understood the difference between the 'Replace Player' button and the 'Produce Backups' button, they seem to do the same thing.

The instructions mention the monthly host backup files. As of 1.08 these no longer seem to be produced and this isn't listed in the 1.08.05 fixes.

Backups cannot be made between a movement phase and a combat phase, might be good to mention this. Also since 1.08 backups made in the diplomatic phase don't work.

Since 1.08 diplomatic phases cannot be skipped or AIed by the host.

Not sure if this is the right section to put it in but a proper explanation of the 1.08 simultaneous diplomacy is badly needed.

Would be a really good idea to mention that if the host loses their copy of the game the entire game is dead. The host needs to take regular backups and keep a spare copy off their hard drive and for preference somewhere where someone else in the game can access them.

This is good feedback.  Maybe Marshall can resolve some of this with the v1.08.06 patch he's working on.

Well that or take the approach that one computer manufacturer used many years ago when reacting to a bug report - "This is not a bug, it is a feature. The documentation will be updated to reflect this feature at the next release" [;)]

David, I think Marshall has fixed to the game to allow skipping of the diplomacy phase. Having the AI playing a turn may still need some work. Maybe Marshall can comment?
