Unit Strength report

Post by Lieste »

When comparing in-game strength reports from the general and estab tabs there are sometimes discrepancies in the AFV and Gun numbers - the Estab frequently reports one or two fewer vehicles or weapons than the general tab does.

The difference only shows up in game for enemy units, and it is not just an artifact of updates occuring for various parts of the intelligence report in subsequent 'impulses' (sometimes the unit is updated and changes Estab, but it can take some time for the displayed range circles and estab type to agree).

The strength discrepancy is still seen in the 'perfect' intelligence of the AAR, (for those units not destroyed entirely) with many gun and armoured units showing one or more extra elements in the General tab than in their estab tab.

As an aside - any chance of adding the 'supply columns' as a 'unit under command' for all base units, so the total size can be read 'at a glance' even when the current strength is down because of active supply runs.
Not suggesting that the unit actually be added as under command (for control purposes) or that they need go on map, just re-using the code that displays force composition for a task-force to improve accessibility of data already presented within the UI - (Gen tab - Strength/Non-AFV strength, Dep tab - personnel/vehicles in columns).
Currently it is hard to tell if a badly depleted base has taken (any) casualties or is just really busy with ongoing supply work.

If you go to the Depot tab of a Base unit you will see how many supply columns it has out at that moment.

Yes, that is where I get the current supply column strength from, but the General tab suggests 'at a glance' that the unit is heavily damaged, when it is in fact working perfectly.

As supply columns can be destroyed en-route, it can be hard to keep track of which bases have actually taken damage, or indeed how much 100% was - a column heading to/from an artillery battery could be far more serious than one heading towards a bridge security detachment.

The suggestion to incorporate the supply column(s) on the General tab as 'units under command' for the Base unit would still separate boots-on-ground strength for the base from the flying columns, while allowing a total value for the unit to be kept 'somewhere'.
