Disoriented LCU...

Post by fcharton »

Hi,

Since a couple of days, my opponent and me have noticed strange behaviour from LCU ordered to move. Units would mysteriously change direction, or "lose" their orders and stop.

Here is an exemple. Yesterday, a division in Chuhsien (hex 8856) was ordered to move one hex south east, towards Wenchow (destination hex 8857). Today, the unit information screen indicates the correct target, but also states the unit is moving due east, and actually records a 30 miles (major road) move, which proves it is going east (there is no major road to 8857, should be 15 miles).

The same thing happened to the same unit a few days ago. When it appeared in the wrong hex, I first had thought I had misselected the destination. (The unit is supplied, I hold Chuhsien, and have supplies there).

I have other examples. This seems to be happening
- in closed terrain (wooden rough), with roads
- in areas where a lot of troops, of both sides, are present

Anyone knows what is happening? (I can provide the savefile if needed, just PM me)

Thanks in advance
Francois

EDIT : after a couple of tests, I think I have a better description of what happens...
My unit can't go to 8857 because the hexside is enemy controlled, BUT (and I believe this is the strange part), if I order the LCU to this "forbidden hex", it will actually move back instead of remaining in place.

It's not actually moving back fcharton, it will actually march all around the hex if it finds a valid hexside it can enter from behind. Having the unit set to move instead of combat could also have caused the unit to find the safest way into the hex so to speak. It is very important to check the hexside details by pressing W before you give units march orders, especially with enemy units near by. I always press W to check the hexside details first.
