Recon issue with the Soviets in 1941

Hi, I've had no air recon ability for four turns now in my PBEM game

I've the aircraft, the bases, the % set to fly on the air doctrine screen all correct

I click on the recon button (F5?), and the screen does not change, other than my airbases get highlighted.

I try auto AI missions, and it comes up with "Recon planes unavailable or out of range".

Any ideas, or what do you need me to post on here for help?

I think there are few if any recon planes, and even then only stand ins. Even in 42 there arent yet a lot at least in my 3 games as SU so far.

[:)]  Check the range - some of the early Soviet recon planes have a very short range and need to be very close to the front.

Some of my recon squadrons have only 2 ready out of 20 planes.  The others are either damaged or in "reserve" ( not national reserve ).  So I had to turn down the percent required to fly to like 5 % to get any to fly at all.

Soviet players may want to set recon units to manual upgrade, so they don't swap out SB-2s for the UVs.

There could be various reasons for recons not be flying. Besides already mentioned, you should have enough fuel on the base.

All of your recon air group are set to night mission. Switch them back to day mission and they should be able to fly recons again.

My next question is why won't my rifle brigades combine into Rifle Divisions in Oct 1941? I'm combining them together and pressing "b" as per the manual.

Do they have to be in cities?

Do they need full movement points?

Or am I just being thick again?

There was a rule change in one of the patches (should be mentioned in the notes). They can not be combined till the spring 1942.
