From this BBC new article:

The Royal Navy pioneered carriers, explains Hewitt, head of attractions and collections at the Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust. The first carriers were converted battlecruisers like the 7,500 ton Ark Royal, whose biplanes first saw action in February 1915 against the Turks in the Dardanelles.

I think I want Hewitt's job, I know more about the RN thatn he does.

Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust has appointed a new head of attractions and collections, Nick Hewitt.
A widely published historian, Nick will be made responsible for the Action Stations and the Dockyard Apprenice Exhibition at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, the Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower in Gosport and the Trust’s collections.

Already a Trustee of the Portsmouth Royal Dockyard Historical Trust in his previous post of Historian, Research and Information Officer at the Imperial War Museum, Nick’s appointment follows the retirement of Frank Nowosielski as General Manager for Action Stations and Explosion! Museum of Naval Firepower.

Commenting on his new appointment, Nick Hewitt said: “After fifteen years combining the study of naval history with a museum career, coming to Portsmouth to take on such a varied and exciting role really is a dream come true for me, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be given the opportunity”.

Wow. According to the article it will have *12* F-35s. Umm, shouldn't it have a larger complement? [8|]

That would presuppose the money and political will to pay for them.

I hope so:

The standard airgroup of 40 aircraft includes the Lockheed Martin F-35B joint strike fighter, the EH101 Merlin helicopter and the maritime surveillance and control aircraft (MASC).

At least they've scrubbed the stupid VSTOL requirement and are going for the CATOBAR variant now.

I think you already pay enough. And the jury is still out on what would happen if the US had France's taxation levels. [:D]

Have you tried rolling them up and frying them in bacon. I bet that'll make the diet better. [:D]
