Long Load Times

Post by michael1776 »

Does anyone else notice very long load and shutdown times on this game? My PC will take up to a minute to shut this game down. In game, the play is flawless, it just takes forever to load, and quit. My machine was state of the art when this game released four years ago. It surpasses all of the system requirements by a wide margin. I run Win XP Pro. 2 gigs of RAM, AMD Athalon chipset and an NVIDIA graphics card with 164 meg of video RAM. My hard disk is defragmented regularly, and as far as I know my virtual memory settings should not be an issue. I am just curious if this is common for those that still play the game.

Michael - My load times aren't nearly that long, but my machine is alittle more advanced then yours. I think its just a function of your hardware. I would just log on then go get your drink and chips before settling in to play. [:D]

Looks like it may be time to finally get a new PC. I think I have squeezed enough water out of this rock to safely retire it. The sad thing is that this is the only program that causes me any trouble. Hard to justify spending $1100 to be able to load FOF a little faster....lol At least I don't have to run that purchase by any significant other. Although, I am not sure that missing out on the certain other regular benefits of female companionship is a good trade-off for not having to justify a frivolous purchase or the fact that my whole weekend is spent playing games from this website.

Thanks for the help Ugly....

Just buy the comp and then get the girlfriend. [;)]

Although my philosophy with the wife is "its easier to ask forgiveness than permission".

Sage advice! Although at this point in time I may just say skip the girfriend altogether, buy the PC and then just get a really good dog. At least with a good dog you never have to listen to too much whining. And even if you do it's usually just to go out and play fetch, or to go for a good walk.
