Can't get deliberate battles to work

Post by davec1946 »

I can't get the game to launch anything but hasty attacks. When I try to select units in different hexes for a deliberate attack, the deliberate attack icon does not appear when I right click on the enemy hex. It worked when I first tried the tutorial scenario, but doesn't work now in any scenario I have tried. I tried updating and re-installing the game, but with no luck.

Do the attacking units have enough movement points for a deliberate attack?  Are the attacking units "unready" and have moved already in the turn?

Hold down "shift" with the attacking units highlighted, left-click on the hex you're attacking. You can also get units in multiple hexes to attack one hex this way, by highlighting those units too.

This happens sometimes all on it's own. I can select units and then when I mouseover the enemy stack there is no icon at all, not even hasty. But when I hold the shift and right-click the enemy stack the attack goes through.

If nothing happens at that point you should make sure that the units involved have enough MPs to carry the attack. Remember that units attacking across rivers need more MP.

Don't forget the special '41 GC rules: a deliberate attack across the Dnepr costs 17 MP for infantry and 51 MP for motorized/PZ. Or does it only seem like that?

I can't get the game to launch anything but hasty attacks. When I try to select units in different hexes for a deliberate attack, the deliberate attack icon does not appear when I right click on the enemy hex. It worked when I first tried the tutorial scenario, but doesn't work now in any scenario I have tried. I tried updating and re-installing the game, but with no luck.

There is an old thread on this, but I couldn't find it to refererence. So from memory:

1. Select the master stack to lead the attack (it really doesn't matter which stack is the master, but someone has to be first)
2. Mouseover the target and insure that the hasty attack symbol appears
3. With the mouse stationery over the target, momentarily depress the shift key and insure that the deliberate attack symbol appears
4. With the shift key depressed, CAREFULLY mouseover the other stacks that you wish to join in the attack (ONLY)
5. Release the shift key
6. examine the right hand panel and insure that these are the units you wish to join in the attack. Left click on the unit symbol to remove any extras
7. With the mouse tationery over the target depress the shift key and right click

EDIT: forgot a step

3a. If the deliberate attack symbol does NOT appear, someone in the selected stack does not have enough MP. Go back to step one and edit out the unit with the least MP

Note that most "cannot get deliberate attack symbol" failures are caused by inadvertently mousing over non-adjacent stacks with the shift key depressed.
