Finnish Freeze

Post by PeeDeeAitch »

Again the Finnish Freeze bug has hit. The three most southern divisions on the Finnish starting line never activated after the rest of the Kannas Army activated.

While I am sure my opponent enjoys this, as I am seemingly ready to take Leningrad, I would like to have 3 more divisions in the line.

Has this been looked at as to why it happens? I have save games if desired.

I think it's what happens when the 23rd Army activates fully and the Soviet units near Viipuri run away before the Finns near them are unfrozen. Then, with no supplied Soviet units within three hexes, the Finns need to wait until the Freeze wears off much later.

If I'm wrong on the description PDH, or the chain of events, please correct me.

I will send the turn to 2by3. It is old fashioned PBEM and I will send the password.

Actually, there were soldiers right there, next to the border. The southernmost 3 Finnish divisions just never activated, along with their HQ.

Hi PDH,

What turn is this from? Do you have a screenshot from the start of your very next turn? Does it still show those Soviet units next to the Finns? If the Soviet formations got activated early, and ran away before the end of their turn, then they would not be around to be within the three hex radius necessary to activate those Finnish units. Since the activations for Side A occur during the Logistics Phase that occurs at the end of Side B's turn, these kind of situations can crop up occasionally.

That was turn 5. Here is a shot from the start of turn 6. Perhaps the fact that the Vyborg defenders were isolated?

Yes. The Soviet units need to be within 3 hexes and in supply to activate the Finnish units.
