Championship round will be the Marianas campaign. That one should be a blast.

Quick update on my / Scott's1964's game:

We're about 7 turns into it at this point. I'm still largely preserving OPSEC, but I can say:

Game 1: CB (Jap) v. Scott (Allies):
Most action here. Recent Allied troop transport to Kiska mauled by submarines en route. 3 xAK/AP confirmed sunk; 1 xAP damaged-maybe fatally. Mini-subs set a fuel-laden xAK afire. [8D]

Approximately one refugee / Allied understrength company landed on Kiska may be unequal to the task-liquidation likely.

Kiska AF getting beaten up by Allied LBA.

Game 2: Scott (Jap) v. CB (Allies):
Less naval action at this point. Effective IJN CL-led bombardment of Adak. All 6x IJN mini-subs sunk-4x port attack; 2x ASW attack at Adak. Back and forth in the air.

Turn 8 status:

Game 1: CB (J) v. Scott (Allies):

xAP Chirikof takes 2 more 45cm TTs from a minisub at Kiska. Having taken three torpedoes, she goes down, dragging the unloaded remnants of the USA 53rd IR down (sep) with her.

On land, the IJ defenders of Kiska counterattack, liquidating the small pocket of USAA infantrymen that made it ashore:

Ground combat at Kiska Island (157,51)

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 3594 troops, 52 guns, 2 vehicles, Assault Value = 121

Defending force 95 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 6

Japanese adjusted assault: 29

Allied adjusted defense: 1

Japanese assault odds: 29 to 1

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+)
Attacker: shock(+)

Japanese ground losses:
8 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Allied ground losses:
135 casualties reported
Squads: 10 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Units destroyed 1

Assaulting units:
4th Engineer Coy
Maizuru 3rd SNLF
303rd Ind.Infantry Battalion
8th Ind. Mountain Gun Regiment
Kiska Air Defense AA Division
51st JNAF AF Unit

Defending units:
53rd (Sep) Infantry Regiment

DM Pruitt gets torpedoed by ss I-31.

In a bitter little naval battle, 2x IJN DDs attack a much larger Allied force in the vicinity of Kiska:

Day Time Surface Combat, near Kiska Island at 158,51, Range 11,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
DD Wakaba, Shell hits 3, heavy fires
DD Shirakumo, Shell hits 6, on fire, heavy damage

Allied Ships
DD Gansevoort, Shell hits 1
DD Meade, Shell hits 2, on fire
AM Oriole, Shell hits 6, on fire, heavy damage
AVD Casco, Shell hits 1
PG Charleston, Shell hits 4

Game 2: Scott (J) v. CB (Allied):

Over a series (at least 6! [X(]) engagements, USS CL Sante Fe (and 3 accompanying DDs) fight it out with HIJMS CLs Kiso and Abukama, with DD Wakaba in attendance. USS DD Monaghan and Alywin are damaged during the fight. Both Jap CLs are set aflame, with Kiso showing up on the sunk ship list the following morning. HIJMS DD Wakaba herself accounted for all the battle damage to the Allied ships-she fought extremely well. The CLs were pretty easy meat, having expended nearly all their ammunition on the previous night's barrage of Adak.

DD Hatsushima is sunk by a Mk. 16 mine at Adak.

Turn 9:

Game 1: CB (J) v. Scott (Allies):
DM Pruitt is spotted by I-7 limping back towards Dutch Harbor. I-7 successfully attacks the DM, sinking her with two torpedoes. DD Shirakumo succumbs to her wounds from yesterday's firefight.

Game 2: Scott (J) v. CB (Allies):

DD Wakaba-the HIJMS warrior from yesterday's heavy SCTF action-is found by a TF of 5 Allied DDs. She's set afire with significant damage.

Review of air losses indicates that another Alf float search plane has been lost 'on field'. Curiously, the CL noted on the ships lost column from yesterday has disappeared. Don't know if this means that both CLs have sunk now or just one. FOW I guess. In any case, the damage they suffered was not inconsequential, so they'll be out of the fight for some time, if they survive.

ETA: Allies take the lead on VPs in this game-103 to 102.

Turn 10:

Game 1: CB (J) v. Scott (Allies):

No major developments today.

Game 2: Scott (J) v. CB (Allies):

Around turn 7, I picked up some useful SigInt that pertained to movement of troops from Paramushiro Jima to Attu. The same day identified two distinct ships carrying the same unit to the same destination. I assembled 2x Allied CAs, 3x CLs and 5 DDs into a significant surface force, with orders to patrol the waters immediately west of Attu. Oh, yeah-I also put Arleigh Burke in charge of the CA Indianapolis. [8D]

In the morning phase today, this SCTF intercepts DDs Shirakumo and Hatsuchima, sinking them both with gunfire. To my pleasant surprise, then they found this...(image below).

Day Time Surface Combat, near Attu Island at 152,49, Range 15,000 Yards

Japanese aircraft
no flights

Japanese aircraft losses
No Japanese losses

Japanese Ships
APD Kamikaze, Shell hits 8, and is sunk
APD Nokaze, Shell hits 11, heavy fires, heavy damage
APD Namikaze, Shell hits 9, and is sunk
APD Numakaze, Shell hits 10, and is sunk
AV Kimikawa Maru, Shell hits 17, and is sunk
xAK Sakito Maru, Shell hits 20, and is sunk
xAK Sasako Maru, Shell hits 11, and is sunk
AMC Asaka Maru, Shell hits 22, and is sunk
xAK Awazisan Maru, Shell hits 22, and is sunk
xAK Melbourne Maru, Shell hits 18, heavy fires, heavy damage
xAP Buenos Aires Maru, Shell hits 16, and is sunk

Allied Ships
CA Indianapolis
CA Louisville, Shell hits 2
CL Richmond
CL Raleigh, Shell hits 2
CL Detroit
DD Meade, Shell hits 1
DD Dewey
DD Hull

Japanese ground losses:
20791 casualties reported [X(]

Yes..I think we are on May 9 in one game and may 7? in the other.

Raver lost his two CA's in the he as IJN game which means he cant really contest landings with a viable gunnery force unitl Musashi and the carriers arrive.

The mirror game could easily erase that advantage. I am finding the Australia/Western US time zone thing makes it difficult for us to get two turns per day. I would guess we are doing about 1.3 turns/day.

Then we had a map border eat a task force and a corrupted turn file and I goofed an email and...long story short...it is wide open. Barring some catastrophe at sea it is going to be a while.

Well I have conceded one of our games to Cap Mandrake, Me Allies him IJN.   I lost a CV and a BB so the points are around IJN 400+ Allies 100+.  There is no way that I can recover.  However we are still fighting it out on the other match where I am IJN.........bring on the jap carriers!
